when to do constant steady running and when to do hard easy
do you progress from one to the other
is one inherently superior to the other
thanks

Never, multi pace works better;
Easy/recovery runs
Steady runs
Threshold runs
Tempo runs
SubVO2max-Vo2max workouts
Speed
I have no idea what you are talking about.
thanks fghjkl
i mean
as a simple example
best to do
7 x 10 mile runs at 6.10 minute mile pace
or
3 x 10 miles runs at 5.40 mil mile pace
and
4 x 10 miles at 7 min mile pace

I have always speculated that you start out at a more moderate/steady intensity for base building, and as the season progresses you get more hard/easy and race specific.
I personally just feel "strong" on a bunch of mileage from a solid pace, then when you have all that money in the bank you pretty much just sharpen the speed with goal pace workouts and take the rest easy.
Its the workouts that make the time, but you wont be able to put in the right workouts with the right base of mileage
i agree. so you think a period of just mileage of steady runningthen mileage of hard /easy then race specific hard / easywhat do others think?why not skip the first phase (as long as you are not starting from nothing)
