You buy whole bean coffee, and you keep it in a sealed ziplock bag. You buy a coffee grinder for 15 bucks at bed bath and beyond. You grind the whole bean coffee when you wish to brew coffee.

thanks but you didnt answer my question.
On sale Starbucks Italian Roast.
Cafe Bustelo
Illy is $7.50 for 8.5 oz.
Peets mocha Java 1/2 lb would qualify, and is my personal favorite . . . but the quality seems to have decreased a bit with its popularity.
If you mean $10/lb, well, your question may not have a good answer. You'd need not only to grind your own, but also to buy a torch and a dog bowl and roast your own.

Whole Foods has a bunch of different coffee beans for less than $10/lb, and a couple that cost a little bit more (good stuff, too). You just fill up a bag with however much you want. They also have a grinder so you can grind the beans right there, but you're better off grinding them at home.
Oh okay. I guess you're the kind of guy who settles for the easiest and most convenient option even though it's vastly inferior. goodluck

+1.
Don't bother paying for more expensive coffee cause this stuff is good. Wal-mart even carries it sporadically for something $5 for a 10 ounce can. It's fine ground, so I find it to be a strong coffee that keeps me buzzed for about 30 hours.

the answer really is whatever the drinker likes best, but...
starbucks coffee consistently ranks low on blind test tests. in fact walmart coffee beats it.
http://business.time.com/2011/08/04/no-joke-walmart-coffee-tastes-as-good-as-starbucks/part of what you are drinking and paying for is image. just like beer or those who drink grey goose vodka (which also ranks very very low in blind tests as well).

Do you know who participates in these tests? Your grandmother, mental patients, retards and idiots.
Seriously, my grandmother goes on a rant everytime I see her about how Maxwell House is as good as all that fancy pants coffee out there.
As far as beer goes, the average Joe likes the most boring watered down beers out there. In the Dallas Observer they had a readers poll for The Best of Dallas...Burger King won for "best burger" one year. I don't trust polls because most people who participate in them are morons.

So you like child molesters and unnamed beans from Whole Foods. Anyone else?
Several of the Trader Joe coffees are quite good for the price--a bit of flavor and strong enough to make an impact.
Thanks for the recommendation. I found a 10oz can at my local grocery store for $3.98. You guys are right - plain and simple bold flavorful coffee!
World Market on Western Avenue (I assume you're in Seattle, obviously, as most LetsRunners are, but if not there might be another one nearby) has excellent deals on coffee. I've had it and it's great, and only in the $6-9 range - and every 5th or 6th one you buy is free.

The beans there aren't "unnamed", and they're way better than that Peet's crap. And Sandusky was framed!
To be fair, Amazon give some good reviews, but I enjoyed this negative one:
"Cafe Bustelo releases a stale, pungent aroma when the can's seal is broken: you are forewarned by an odor reminiscent of Maxwell House or perhaps Folger's that has been ground together with cigarette butts. Draw a demitasse of espresso and you can either 1) dissolve the enamel off your teeth by drinking it or 2) water it down to Americano strength where it will merely taunt you, daring you to drink it even when you know you shouldn't. This is honestly the worst espresso I've ever tasted. No body, excessive acidity and bitterness, unpleasant chemical aftertaste. Yes, it's cheap - but the more important question is: are you?"

Heathen. You need a good conical burr grinder to get good taste from your coffee, not some blade grinder from bed, bath, and beyond.
No, you don't. You just wasted your cash on one.
