The results in the Mens 5000 made me wonder: when, if ever, have four Americans broken 13:10 in the same race?

Probably not, but to put it in perspective, how many times had we even had 4 runners under 13:10 in one season! We are gradually raising the bar.

It's awesome. Somebody new is going under 13 soon. Derrick, Jager, Levins, or True.
We need the older guys to stay in the sport longer. It's raising the level of everybody else. Lagat, Ritz, Teg, and Solinsky need to stay in track. Unfortunately Teg is done.

For the 100th time, Levins is not American. However, I will say that I am hoping to see him break 13.
Meanwhile, have you forgotten about Lomong?

never before.
3 individuals in a season twice ('09, '10).
deer adam would've made it 3 in '06 with a better lean at the tape (13:10.00).
indeed, '10 is the only year americans posted more than 4 total

Pretty impressive, I agree...but put in more perspective, all of them would be on the other side of the track, 200m away, if they were in the same race in which Bekele broke the WR.
Forget 13:10. It's not that long since we wouldn't even have 3 guys with the A standard.

Levins is white and therefore American in Letsrun world.
Lomong is not white and thus not American.
Got it?

Derrick will eventually. Levins will not, but he will own the Canadian state record for quite some time.
Jager and True don't count. They are secretly African-Americans and therefore not really Americans.
Liberal yahoos cherish racism; they can't do without it; a non racist America (with a black President and black favorite female celebrity--Oprah--and black favorite athletes and favorite actors and actresses)--an America which led the world in abolishing slavery and moving beyond the principle of race--is unendurable to them. They cannot bear the truth of a post-racist America that I celebrated 30 some years ago in several books.
Thus they have to find racism in every neutral notice of different races. Lomong is great, but he became American five years ago was it?
Canada is actually part of North America, last time I looked.

Right on, brother! Good to see that at least somebody around here remembers how America led the world in abolishing slavery 50 years after it was abolished throughout Europe!
Staying on topic, having half a dozen guys that can run 13:0x and faster is awesome. Lomong is going to run sub 13 this year, I wouldn't bet against Derrick breaking 13 in the next 16 months. If jager gets in to a fast race he's going to be sub 13:05. Hopefully we can get this kind of depth in the marathon soon.

C'mon, man. 2013 Bekele would've been 200m away watching 2004 Bekele run a WR also.

Obviously racism still exists, but this comparison is moronic. It's a lot easier to abolish slavery in countries with almost zero slaves (outside of colonies), than it is to abolish slavery in a country where 50% of said country is dependent upon slave labor.
For example, serfdom was abolished in Austria in 1848 and in Russia in 1861. These would be better comparisons, I think.

And Bekele would have been a lap behind himself on Friday if here were in the same race in which he broke the WR.
Hey, that's sort of like Kiplagat being asked about running himself down in the NBC interview.
In 2008 there were only 3 Americans under 13:20 for the whole year.
Lagat's 13:16 led the US that year.

Excellent point!
So, it truly is "an America which led the world in abolishing slavery" since the Europeans not only abolished slavery long before the US did but also had vastly fewer slaves in the first place!
Not to mention "an America which led the world in abolishing slavery" by abolishing slavery 15 years after Austria and two years after Russia (according to your dates).
Truly an excellent point showing American leadership in ending this horrendous practice!
