Courageous men transparently stand behind their ideas (see: MLK). Cowards incite the masses in anonymity (sp?).

Both; otherwise, I wouldn't be posting anonymously. Do you get it yet?

Thanks for proving my point. If you were posting anything worthwhile and doing so in a civil manner, then what would you have to worry about? Yep, you're a coward, too.
It's 2013 and you're still asking the question about why people post anonymously? This is the freest information can ever flow. Enjoy it while it lasts.
because....... wrote: (because) my name and contact information are none of your damn business
I'll agree regarding the contact info. There are enough whackos on this forum that even the most legitimate among us wouldn't want to be stalked.
And while your name might not be anyone's business, that's a weak argument. If you applied for a job and submitted a resume, would you tell the prospective employer that your name is none of their damn business? Would you say "my resume is all that matters" and then insist that your name would be provided to HR only for the purposes of payroll and benefits? Of course you wouldn't; you would want them to know that you're a person of integrity who stands behind his work history.
So, for the purposes of this forum, you are a coward.
Carnivore 69 wrote: Why are Facebook posts so bland and useless? Because people ARE using their real names. The real opinions come out when you get to be anonymous.
Thank you. You have posted the second response in support of my point. As you stated, people are too cowardly to express their true opinions unless they can spew them anonymously.
SickPuppy wrote:...but people are more honest w/o using their real name, even if you are just talking about running stuff.. much less the political and social discussions.
Agreed. Most people are too cowardly to show their true colors unless they can do so anonymously.

Yes, actually, it is that you're gutless. I'm not trying to "trash talk" you, but re-read your own reply and you will have to admit that I am right.
I post anonymously because I don't want to know anyone on here. I don't want any crossover into my thrilling "real life."
Thanks for the responses, folks. With the exception of a few people who wanted to protect their employment or avoid being stalked by LRC whackos, the latter being COMPLETELY understandable, the rest of you all are in support (even if reluctantly) of my opinion that we anonymous posters are essentially cowards.

always sign my name
Multiple reasons.
At the very beginning I posted with my first name and last initial, and then for years after that mostly semi-anonymously with a familiar handle. And I'd let on enough of my real life that would be recognizable to frequent users or those who actually know me.
However, since they have never actually pursued registered posting here, what's the point especially since practically no one posts under their real name or with recognizable handle (malmo, brojos, flagpole and a couple dozen others excluded)? Decided to join the club. Now I change my name with about every other post.
This site is often atrocious and I'm actually embarrassed to admit that I post here. I got called out by an acquaintnce last year and it was an awkward moment.

Because they can.
(1) If you have a higher profile position in a company or other institution, controversial posts might have negative employment ramifications
(2) There are some crazies out there, do you really want them having personal information about you? (please no offense intended for the crazies)
I think you are nuts to post on a site like this something that might antagonize others and put your name to it.
because i'm in chiropractic school.
When I find myself tempted to post under a different name, because I don't want negative attention or my comment isn't a nice one, I take that as a sign to not post at all.
I understand the urge to be an anonymous dickwad is strong sometimes, but is it really worth being mean to a real person just because I can't see them? By not being anonymous, I find myself being more constructive as a result. I've posted information that a determined individual could used to find out who I am, and wouldn't hesitate to register my handle with real information if it were necessary.
