some data...
March 1992 run test, 34 years old, 8th year of triathlon training.
ran 3 miles on a track in 24:05..log book list my hear rate at 155-160...(no average heart rate feature)
December 2nd 2002, 44 years old, heading into my 19th year of triathlon training.
ran 3 miles on the track in 24:05...my heart rate on the last mile varied between 165-168....average heart rate for the 3 miles 164...(on the first 400 of the test I got false reading on my HR monitor of 179...Im not sure if the monitor factors those readings in when calculating average HR...it settled in after the first 400 meters)
no warm up on either test (I wanted to duplicate the first test from 10 years ago)
Questions:
1) based on this data how much slower/ mile can I expect to run in races due to the effects of aging?
2) if our max HR drops a beat/ year does this mean that, all things being equal, that our LT drops also?
3) is there a specific component of run training that should be emphasised to fight the fade in times due to aging?
