How do you Americans like it when your hard earned tax dollars are going to give some foreigner( like half the OU cross country team ) a scholarship over your American son or daughter who now must borrow to get an education and finish school in debt? Especially in these difficult economic times.
Actually I love it. Just like I love my Kenyan-born, Muslim president, Barack Obama. Perhaps you and your other racist whiner friends can start a petition to secede from the NCAA.
Actually, Obama says he's Christian, and I take him at his word. The eliminate foreigners argument is ridiculous. As some others have said, there's an element of racism here. When the Irish were competing Villanova some years ago they were the toast of the town. There were few complaints about them then.
Putting aside the racism issue, I have no problem with foreigners competing here. Many of them are much more serious about their studies than U.S. citizens are. Sally Kipyego got a bachelor's degree in nursing at Texas Tech, and then moved to Oregon for running as well as completing a master's in nursing.
The sports world in general is becoming truly international. The English Premier League in soccer had become stagnant and predictable. Over time, more foreigners, from all over the world, were signed by EPL clubs, and the level has increased dramatically. It's forced the English to begin to upgrade their youth academies so native Englishmen can compete with the higher level of competition.
That Americans no longer value middle and long distance running is not the fault of Kenyans and other foreign athletes. The NCAA championship is just that, a championship, and not a sheltered workshop. If American kids would rather eat junk food and get fat, that's fine, but stop complaining that some foreigner is "stealing" roster spots or championships. Suck it up!
