Trying to decide how to divide up my long runs. Been trying them both ways for a while, but can't seem to figure what's best

On longer runs, I tend to strike on the middle of the foot. For shorter runs, hill workouts, and sprints, I try to heel strike. This balances out the impact and effectively strengthens the various leg muscles.
I tend to shift towards a heel strike on down hills, and mid for the rest.
Whoever said to heel stride when doing hill workouts or sprints is an idiot. Don't do that. That is when forefoot striking is essential. You shouldn't ever really heal strike. Mid-foot striking should happen on recovery days but the goal of any runner who wants to get better should be to get to the point where running on the forefoot is natural and constant.
Don't heel strike on uphills? Are you for real!? Why else do they put crash pads on shoes if you're not supposed to use them?
I try to alternate per stride, heel strike left, forefoot right, forefoot left, heel strike right. It get's confusing!

Definitely heel-first.
If you ran with good form the knee surgeons would eventually go out of business, then the Bentley dealers would go belly up, and pretty soon the whole economy would come crashing down. Just say no.
