Penn... see the coaches opening thread
Holy sh!t, this is huge (if true).
Steve is a great coach and demon recruiter. Princeton is easier to recruit top athletes for than many people realize, but I *promise* you that Penn is easier still. A former Penn coach told me, some years back, "It used to be that you could get a monkey into Penn, and if you shaved him you could get him into Wharton. Now it's tougher: you have to shave him to get him into *Penn*."
I admire Steve's work and wish him all the best at UPEnn. Unfortunately, I'm a Penn hater from 'way back (BITD when they were pretty blatant cheaters--and winners!), and am saddened by the prospect of the Quakers' imminent success.
Seriously, great move for Steve. He's one of the top young-ish coaches in the country.
PS I have a pretty good idea of who his replacement could be. Let's just say, someone who's won a national cross title...

Who, Vinanna? You think he'll come back to the Ivy League?
There are national titles other than DI NCAA...

Sam Chelanga is going into coaching???
mick byrne or andy gerard? gerard has done a great job at mason, won a title at stanford and is an east coast guy.
Why would Princeton post a job opening on a variety of sites if they have already settled on a replacement.

Are you serious?
This is the USA in the early part of the 21st century. There are steps that are mandated by law.
And you go through those steps, invite a number of fully-quotafied candidates, and *then* hire the coach whom you were going to hire anyway.
Seriously? You didn't know this?
No, I am not aware of a law that requires the posting of job openings by a private employer. I am certainly aware of Title 7, the ADA etc that require that employment decisions not violate the rights of a federally protected class. But a requirement that before you fill a job, you must post it on the internet? Nope, not aware of that statute but perhaps you can enlighten me.
SMD, you seem to have an idea... care to share?
No idea. But my point was that perhaps they have not settled on a candidate and are soliciting applications in a somewhat open process. But I am sure that other posters have much better information than I do and the posting of the job opening is completely cosmetic to make the process appear open.
Confirmed: Dolan is the new Director of Penn's XC/TF

sounds like dolan got tired of having the admissions people tell him no no no.
That's why Vin left Dartmouth anyway.
Not that penn is so much easier to get in to, but it is easier no doubt.

Ha! Dolan didn't have to say no to too many guys the past few years.
He can recruit even more widely at Penn, but the aid is not as generous as HYP.
He's done great at each stop on the way, and they have a great class coming in. If they have the institutional support, they could start to challenge Princeton and Cornell in a few years.

Yeah, I've met some student-athletes who got into Princeton, and it's safe to say that PU Admissions gives a *real* break to (some) sports applicants...not that the other Ivies don't, but PU seems to have this image of ultra-restrictive admissions. No, not for (top) athletes!
And, having known Steve and admired his work for ~20 years, I can tell you that Penn should be a contender--a *real* contender--by his second year. You'll probably see it first on the women's side.
And yeah, the other Ivy teams know it!
So who is open to transfer from Princeton?

AL CARIUS TO COACH PRINCETON; HEARD IT HERE FIRST
Very overrated.
There is a ton of talent on the Princeton roster. In fact, more than every school in the country except maybe Oregon and Wisconsin. It has also proven to be a very difficult transition in being just the men's distance coach to director of a combined program. Your actual "coaching" suffers!
