Awesome fact!
Awesome fact!
True. He is also.....
The tallest AND heaviest runner to break 13:00 for 5k.
and.....
The tallest and heaviest runner to ever break 28:00 for 10k.
Also, this has been discussed before.
Alberto Juantorena never ever ran a mile?

Who the hell cares? At least it's something running related, unlike half of the posts on here.
Paul McMullen must have been heavier, if not taller.
Solinsky heavier? 1 inch smaller.

According to their IAAF profiles Paul McMullen is 17 kg (!!!) heavier and 2 cm taller, and he has a faster 1500m PR than Mottram. (Granted his mile PR is about 6 seconds slower, but still...)

Wrong. I used the search function and found absolutely nothing no threads regarding Mottrams size.
Sweet Fact: Anything about Mottram
Unfortunate fact: Webb and Hassay are the most analyzed people on these boards, and they will be for many more years REGARDLESS of how bad they perform.
Real talk. Come eff with me.

Perhaps that is because this cool fact is entirely inaccurate?

Paul Mcmullen is listed at 196lbs and that is pretty believable from the picture above. When he was in top form though I think he was closer to 170.

Gives us bigger guys hope.
Add Christian Hesch to the list of "heavier than Mottram" sub-4 milers.
Eric Henry who ran at the University of Arkansas back in the day was a very big guy. Also former Australian record-holder Simon Doyle was no small man either.
According to the IAAF website Mottram is 6'2" 158lbs. There's a fair number of dudes bigger than that out there.
Didn't Henry Rono run a sub-4 mile when he weighed like 220? It's on youtube, I think.
Cool fact, that's the jankiest link of all time

Someone want to give actual numbers for these guys? Height is probably going to be more static and easy to track/confirm, weight can fluctuate and it would be impossible to say someone was X kgs at Y point in time. I'm interested nonetheless.
Better to be the fastest
Joaquim Cruz was heavier than Mottram and likely just as tall.
Pablo Solares is also really tall and big too (6'4" according to the Rice University website) . I think he ran like 3:55 indoors a few years ago.

The legitimacy of the fact has absolutely zero impact on whether or not is has been the topic of a thread conversation before.
Mottram is obviously visually larger than the little darkskins that he competes against.
