I'm looking for a racing flat to do tempos and workouts in. I want one of the lower type of flats. More of the 5k/10k flats. But I also don't want something like the Piranha, which I love, but which I would only use for races, because they aren't very durable. Obviously I don't expect a 1000 miles out of a flat, but something that could last me this summer and maybe the start of fall for 1-2 runs a week would be great.
I'm considering the Hagio. Also looking at Saucony A5 and Wave Universe, and possibly the new New Balance MRC1600, although not too many people have probably tried that out yet.
Because this will just be for tempos/workouts, I would like something that isn't too tight, but something narrower than a traditional trainer wouldn't be too bad. In other words, secure but not constricting.
I've heard the Hagio has a wider toe box, but is it too wide for faster paced stuff? Is it secure enough on the foot?
I've tried the Nike Streak XC but it felt like the inside of my foot was coming off the inside edge.
Thoughts on the other flats listed above? Fit, durability, flexibility, and just general performance.
I also would consider the Lunaracer Montreal if anyone has thoughts on that, although that's built up a bit more. For roads I'm assuming it would be good.
