Obviously it depends on whether or not you are currently overweight. One cannot really simply say that losing weight is or isn't a good idea as a general rule.

You should talk to your coach about what you can do this summer with diet and exercise to be prepared for the Fall XC season. Include weight in the discussion, but don't make it the focus. Discuss what your summer plans will be with work or travel, etc. that may impact your running. There's a real hazard of overtraining or being undernourished--especially if your body is still developing. Check your BMI which is age and gender-based. Some people do have big frames regardless of height.
