I've had a longtime issue with my peroneals and a lax cuboid, which comes and goes in severity. Most of my pain is where the peroneals wrap around the fibula and then also where it wraps around cuboid, which sometimes seems to 'set the cuboid off'. I'm an elite level runner and have worn lightweight trainers/racing flats for many years. I'm somewhat tied/limited with my shoe selection because of my sponsor, but at this point I want to wear whatever is right to get my foot to feeling better. I've gone to a shoe store and tried on shoes, of which my foot seems to feel best in a firm shoe-- I believe something that's stiff for 2/3 and flexible in the toe. My ankle is sensitive to how the heel counter fits. I think I need something more pliable and not pressing so much into the ankle. I haven't found the right shoe yet-- does anyone have recommendations?
I'm well aware of massaging the calf and doing strengthening exercises. I've gotten all kinds of therapies too and rested at one time, only to have the problem come back immediately. The doctors have recommended orthotics, but my past experience with orthotics wasn't favorable. I'd like to find the right lightweight shoe. Appreciate suggestions.
