Anyone know why? I know a lot of people had criticized her decision to go to Wisconsin at the time, but it seems like she did pretty well there as a freshman. I don't know much about the coach at Wisconsin or her personal situation, I was just curious if anyone knows details of her decision.
No, courtesy of this message board. Weeks ago.
I thought Wisconsin had a policy of not releasing runners? What gives have they changed that policy?

Well we obviously don't know yet if they released her until she actually competes in a meet next fall for Providence. Anybody can transfer without a release, they just can't compete that first year if they don't get one.
Her father was teammates with the Wisco coach in the early 80's. Might have something to do with it.
I'm utterly shocked stinzi signed a 3year extension at Wisconsin. I thought if any school would care about the competitiveness of their xc/track program it'd be the badgers. There is so much unused and abused talent on the women's side.
Just goes to show that some people aren't cut out for head coaching.

Stintzi graduated in 78 or 79. Then might have overlapped one year.
Right, I always mix him up with Joe.
The Badgers always get some of the top girls around the state but they don't seem to perform that well once college starts

Well explain this then - Brandon Bethke & Noah Shannon transferred (after Schumacher left) to same school (AZ State) same year (2008) yet Shannon was given an immediate release, whilst Bethke was not. Explain that.
Pretty simple, Bethke was a nationally competitive athlete while Shannon wasn't and never even ran for ASU
Could it be an opporunity to train with Molly Huddle?
Ray Treacy(Huddle's coach) has a stellar women's team record - 17 top ten finishes
Sisson/Greany 12th-14th in '10 should be Top Ten in '11
placing PC in the mix for Top 3 teams

It was the manner in which the situation arose - Bethke left and did not ask whereas others played it differently. It was not because Bethke was a top-level guy. If Sisson has transferred, does anyone know the eligibility status?
Confirmed: Emily Sisson to run for Providence starting fall 2011

Sisson to Providence
Big news in the NCAA XC scene! Our sources have confirmed that former Wisconsin All-American, Emily Sisson, has transferred to Providence College in Providence, RI (it was double confirmed via her Facebook wall...gotta love it).

Huddle will not be working out with the college runners. Ray Treacy goes by the book and would not actively have college runner training with his pros.
Sisson has enough training partners with Hannah Davidson, Shelby Greany, Laura Nagel, etc.
PC is very strong, but don't forget how loaded the Big East is: Villanova, Georgetown, West Virginia, and 'Cuse are all great programs.
Do you have inside information about both the Bethke and Sisson situation in the manner in which they asked for a release or are you just guessing? I thought once a policy was in place it was followed by everyone at the University. Are you saying that the University of Wisconsin does not treat all their athletes the same? Are you saying they make decision because on personal relationships and not based upon facts? Why should she be treated differently then Bethke? It is my understand that Bethke asked and did everything he could have done. Do you know differently?

I don't have any information regarding Wisconsin, but every school is going to look at each situation individually, not just have some blanket policy like you are suggesting. Most schools will release kids for the most part, but if the athlete is playing games, not communicating, straight out lying, etc., then the school may not release them. If you know you are transfering for months, but wait until the summer to let the school know so they can't recruit anyone else with that money, the school certainly has the right to not grant the release.
Any school that does not provide a release should be penalized.

Why?
A school is paying someone to play a sport, they are making an investment in that person in both money and time. Athletes should realize this and not take it for granted. Do your research before you go to a school, go there for more than just a coach or scholarship...
