He means that black women are ugly and people prefer white woman. Thus, cheerleaders will always be a majority of white women.

Every time I believe racism and negative stereotyping against Black folk is slowly dissolving with other archaic ways of thinking this site reminds me that I'm absolutely wrong. Cam Newton is putting up HISTORIC numbers right now, 1 of only 6 players in NFL history to put up almost 900 yards in his first 2 games. He has been nothing but professional, humble, and mature beyond his years during all interviews and always pays tribute to the team effort. Sure, his father may have made some irresponsible decisions while Cam was in college, but that was a reflection of his father not him.

The NFL and NBA are both obviously making concerted attempts to change the attitude of the sport. There are more and more Black head coaches and positions of leadership. Young athletes (which overwhelming majority of are from high crime/low socioeconomic communities) now have mentors and advisors from day 1, etc,etc. All this negative talk about Cam et al being thugs, thieves, ignorant and Black women being unattractive is mind-boggling and shameful. Thank you LRC for reminding me that times have not changed much from 60 years ago.

A list of black QBs who have not succeeded (as if all white ones do;

A list of black athletes who have gotten on trouble (as if all black athletes and no white ones run afoul of the law);

Yeah he has thrown for over 420 twice in two games, but they LOST both games, he's thrown more INTs than TDs, only has a 62% completion percentage and an 89 QB rating (Behind the career rating of 7 other active QBs, including Matt Schaub). And he is only throwing so much due to the complete lack of a running game. It took Charles Woodson half a game to figure Cam Newton out. The rest of the NFL will take longer, but they will figure him out too. Oh, and of those 850 yards he has thrown for? His team has about 250 YAC.

Is he one of the better QBs in the league? Sure. Is he the next great thing? Not so far.

As a Black individual, I can assure you I've felt my fair share of discrimination. I can definitely empathize with discrimination, but will never rationalize and condone it. Nevertheless, this conversation is about demonizing an entire race of people based on a few outlieing behaviors. As the OP attempted to celebrate this young man's short career and significant potential to excel in his craft, a host of folks have decided to use race and stats to discredit it all. Not based on Cam Newton's personal history, but by using examples from an entire race of people to justify their beliefs. The real danger lies in the profiling and stereotyping of others, as thousands of teens are reading (and processing) the very words expressed here.

The tossing and acceptance of severe negative stereotyping that takes place without reflection of its implications is shameful and actually a bit scary to say the least. However, this is not my website nor do have ownership in how its run/managed. But when folks are allowed to have an open and public forum to spread hatred, racism, and profiling against a group of people, it is dangerous and irresponsible.

Is it really hard to understand, really? A guy who most were calling a bust before he took a snap in the NFL. He was picked up by a terrible Carolina team. In his first 2 starts he did something only 5 other players in NFL history have done. Do you expect there to be no hype with all that being said. Nobody is saying he is the greatest ever but he has certainly been a pleasant surprise. Anyone claming to the fact they lost those 2 games - THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO LOSE THOSE GAMES BY MUCH WORSE.

A pleasant, rare NFL peformance the past 2 weeks. Good reasons to hype something up and completly understandable.

To summarize: In his rookie season Manning threw 26 touchdowns, 28 interceptions, threw for a lot of yards but his team had a terrible record (3 wins). Sound familiar?

Do you know anything about football?

He is throwing INTs because he is on a sorry team. When you are always coming from behind, the entire stadium knows he is going to throw therefore increasing the chances for INTs. If he gets an o line and a running game he will be VERY dangerous. When the defense has to respect the run, the QB becomes more effective.

I know its early in his career, but he is shutting a lot of people(mostly white people)up. That being said, I think Todd Marinovich was on that list of record breaking rookie QBs. We all know how he turned out.
