He has great athletic gifts. Those don't always translate to the next level. I do not know if he will be able to read NFL defenses. He certainly has not shown me that he can.
vince young.
Uhmmm ... he has very poor character, he is thug, and he probably can't get any higher than Vince Young on Wunderlich - who got a 6

I think he will do well but won't be the best. Don't expect 99% of the viewers of this site to have any idea about the ins and outs of the NFL.
actually my godfather owned one of the most storied franchises in league history - hint - was in East

No. Carl Lewis was black and always performed well when it counted and was squeaky clean off the track.
The problem with Newton is that he is a black man with a history of DAFN behavior. Most DAFNs do not see to change, grow or evolve--they keep repeating the same mind-bogglingly stupid actions over and over again.

Going by your first post, it appears you think he will flop. So time will tell if you are in the 99% or the 1%. Hope you don't let your godfather down by showing a lack of understanding the NFl and what it takes - that would be embarrassing.

I don't see why that would be embarrassing. Every year about 1/2 of first round draft picks are total flops. It appears the people in charge of scouting and drafting often don't understand the NFL and what it takes either.
If you are going to make a claim about someone, in a bold way (my opinion), then it should be embarrassing if it doesn't workout.
It is as simple as that.
In addition, it is easier to be wrong when you say someone is going to be good and they end up not being good. That is what happens with scouts and the draft pickers.
When you act like someone is going to be a bust and they end up not being a bust, you put yourself out there more.
What do I know though?
I don't think he is intelligent enough to learn the NFL game. Defenses are faster and more complex than anything he has ever faced. Raw talent will only get you so far. I don't think he will be able to grasp the nuances of the position as all the great QBs do. If he does though he will be very good. With his size he could be a Big Ben with serious legs or a Vick that is harder to tackle.
Simple: he'll be in prison.
Tebow, Vick, Young, Smith are nowhere near the best QBs in the NFL. Just cause you win a Heisman means diddly squat on an NFL field.
Yes, Vick is one of the best qb's in the league. Thinking otherwise is really odd.
2nd best passer rating
2nd most yards per throw
He didn't win the Heisman though.
Tom Brady will still be playing in 5 years, that's why.

When did Vick and Young win the Heisman?
The spread offense caters to his athletic ability, the problem is that the level of athletism in the nfl is off of the charts. The spread doesn't require a qb to read alot of defenses. This is why qb's from spread don't make it in the nfl. Vick is great, but he reads defenses better now than he did before prison.
I think Luck, who comes from a pro offense is ahead of Newton right now. One thing that will hurt Newton is Young.
He's Jamarcus Russel
Cam Newton's likely outcomes in the NFL:
Newton will intially flop when he finds he can't overwhelm NFL defensive players. When you watch him play you can see him get antsy when his team is behind. This is like telegraphing your intentions to the defense. Newton does not have a poker face.
JaMarcus Russel: Possibly. Talented but couldn't cope with not being spectacular in the NFL. Long gone.
Matt Leinart: Most likely. A headcase who can't get his priorities together. Still playing but who knows for how long.
Vince Young: Outside chance, if Newton gets his head together after initially failing. Young managed to get over the transition but it took some time.
Michael Vick: Very unlikely. Vick is a smart guy and adaptable to pressure situations. I personally don't see Newton as the same type of person in terms of adaptability.
