I've heard that one shouldn't nap 3 hours before a race. Does anyone know if there's scientific evidence to back this up?
What are your experiences with napping before a race?

The day I broke my 1600 pr. I woke up from an hour nap about 30 minutes before the race. I ran a pr in the 8k yesterday and I had a short 20 minute nap like and hour away from race time.
A good nap 3-4 hours before, and caffeine an hour before does the trick for me. It helps if this is integrated in to your normal training routine (at least for hard sessions).
it worked for Jim Ryun
I read an article stating that German napped between his senior year incredible 1600/3200 double.
In high school, I ran a 24 second pr in the 3200 less than an hour after waking up from a nap, and not sleeping the night before. I was practically falling asleep on the line, waiting for the gun to go off.
I recommend naps.
i smashed 12 seconds off my 1600 pr 4:40 to a 4:28 after not sleeping at all the night before
