My marathon was today, so here's my race report.
Let me preface it with my training. When this thread was created, I had been running for 2 weeks with weeks of 15 and 28 miles. I decided to get in as many miles as I could for a week, then taper off, so I ran 70 the following week with a 16 miler this past Sunday, then barely ran at all this week (it took me nearly the entire week to recover from the 16 mile run).
Long story short, I blew up after 16 miles. I went out in 6:43 feeling like a jog, then 7:08, 7:02, 7:14, 6:50, 6:57, 6:55, 7:02, 7:00, 6:41, 6:52, 6:21 (maybe short?), 6:41, 1:30:10 at the half, mile 14 was 6:41, 15 was 6:54, and 16 was 7:00. I still felt good on 16 and thought I had a Boston qualifier in the bag, but that quickly went away. By the end of 17 (7:28) I knew I was in trouble, 18 was around 8:00 and I was DONE. My right hamstring cramped up just past the 18th mile marker to the point I had to stop and stretch it out. I had to do this probably 10 times the rest of the way. Both quads started cramping and I was in by far the most pain I've ever experienced as a runner. I don't remember all of my splits after that, but I do know 21 and 22 were a blazing 10:45 and 10:43 respectively. If I even tried to go faster than 10 min pace my hamstring would lock up.
I don't have the official result yet, but I had 3:26:24 on my watch, after hitting 16 in 1:50:01. It was an epic death march into the finish, but I "ran" the whole way at least.
