Title says everything. Was/am injured, but something minor (ruptured baker cyst).
Best for me now is rest so that inflammation goes down. Been out for 4 weeks now and target marathon is in 6 weeks.
Dr. said I'll be fine, just need to let the body heal and cyst will resolve within 3-4 weeks.
That leaves less than 2-3 weeks.
Of course I won't race, won't competete, or won't go for time. But since it's my first marathon, part of me wants to go for the real "finisher" challenge: run it without having run in 2 months.
That sounds stupid but when you think about it, well, this would be a true test of endurance.
What do you guys think? Running just a bit (2-3 times a week 3 miles) during a recovery would make no difference and may delay the recovery. By not running at all I maximize my chances of being fully recovered by the marathon.
What could be the consequences (other than bonk?)? Could I sustain permanent damage?
Mileage was 35-40 mpw in July-August, longest run 16 miles. Last real run Aug 28.
what I want to other is the effect of detraining on tendons, ligaments etc.
Of course I can pick another one, but I'd like this challenge. It's NYC on Nov 7, and my home. I may not be there next year as I am starting to be more serious job wise.
