Remember Briana Jackucewicz?
She ran 16:43 indoors as a 7th grader in 2004.
Now is now a sophomore in college, nominally on the team at Harvard, but hasn't run anything of note in about 3-4 years.

You people are overlooking one factor in this equation that lends itself to credibility - Mike Pigg.
Now if we only knew the athletic pedigree of her mother...anyone know this?

Well, she competes in triathlons too:
http://www.racecenter.com/results/2006/cctri06.htmLooks like at the end of a triathlon, she can run a 5k in about 25 minutes...at the age of 46.
I'd say the genetics are pretty good.

Yup, you're right.
But I see other results with 27 minute 5ks at the end of tris for her. Again, in the mid-late 40s.
I'm sure your mother's PR is nothing near that.
Let's take a peak at others' times in that race and what kinds of times they run on other courses

does mid 18s on that fast 5k course (where the 12 yr old ran 16:43) correspond well to 24min for 6k? not sure

yeah, as someone already pointed out, that 10:30 is a 3K, not a 3200m
Having Mike Pigg as a father definitely makes this look pretty legit, even if the 5k course might be off.
If February, Chloe ran the Clam Beach run in Trinidad (north of Arcata/McKinleyville) and ran the 5.75 mile course in 35:10 (6:06 pace). From personal experience, I can attest that it's a legit course. It's mostly roads with rolling hills and the last 2 miles are on the beach to the finish.
Based on the picture of the XC race, that's on the HSU track, which means the course went into the redwood forest trails that are behind the university. There's nothing flat about those trails.

What's the likelihood this is a three mile as opposed to a 5k? Or outright a 4k? Or a two-mile? I mean, there's two explanations: 1) she's a future Olympian/World Leader, 2) there's been a simple mistake. As for the dude who suggested a 9 year old ran 15:20, or whatever... either screwing with us because he/she is a jerk, or a total, total idiot.
Last name is Pigg? That is kind of a rough name to go through life with!
That would make it about 4.7k, at most 3 miles (4.828k). It's clear that some (even College) XC courses either aren't accurately measured, or are set-up differently on the day than might have been previously accurately measured. This is the bane of road-races (and their measurer's) as well that set-up sometimes changes what was intended, which can make for a short course.
It is most likely a 3 mile race.
Also, the guys´ course was also definitely short, wouldn´t you say? It´s supposed to be an 8k...

9 #248 Lewis, Jason Unattached 26:06.00
10 #327 Gutierez, Abel Humboldt State 26:07.00
i'd say that both courses were definitely short. Times were well beyond what any of these folks have run previously.
Even with that said though, this gal is pretty darn talented. Probably worth something in the 17's for an actual 5k.. which is smoking!
the course was at college of the redwoods not HSU so its not as crazy of hills - i don't care how good she is in other stuff, you do not bust out a sub 17 after the other times she has run, not a chance - and not one of those guys has run sub 25 before so i would say they are both short
Pigg was a monster on the bike, couldn't run worth a damn. Would also guess the little Pigg has grown up doing all the disciplines of tri's and is advanced for her age, we all know it catches it with us (Bri J. ring a bell).
From the pictures on the Humboldt site it looks like they ran portion of the race on the track. I'm going to guess they were supposed to have everyone run 2 laps around the track but mistakenly only had them run 1. If you do the math, those times look more realistic for 4600m and 7600m races for the athletes involved. That would still make it a low-18:00 race for the young girl. Pretty impressive.
