Is this for real, or was the race actually shorter than 5k?
From the Humboldt State athletics website:
"In the women's race, the college athletes were outraced by a young phenom, 12-year-old Chloe Pigg, of McKinleyville. The daughter of former Triathlon World Champion Mike Pigg, Chloe blasted the 5K course in 16:43, outpacing HSU's No. 1 runner on the day, Irene Graham (18:12)."

Is this for reals???? I'm pretty sure the 12 year old age group record (and even for under 15s too) on the ROADS is slower than that... in xc??!
An excellent time, but Jordan Hasay ran a 15:27 in XC when she was 9 years old. Google is your friend, look it up. New to running much?

I'll go so far as to say that I saw her run that 15:27 on United States soil and she was no more than a around a decade old at the time.

She has track times of 5:38 for the mile (2009- age 11), and 10:30 (3K-2010), so I'm going with good talent + short course + really poor college teams (none of the HSU women ran track).
The guy probably did see Hasay run 15:27 in an XC race at about 10 years old. BUT, a lot of girls' high school XC courses in CA are 2.5mi, which works out to about 6:11/mi pace. Entirely believable. So the dude can read a watch, but probably is clueless about course length.

The 3k was earlier this year, big difference.
Now it is later in the year, so it makes since she'd be faster.
Jordan's Hasay's 15:27 is just as believable as any other recordable time-based event. Take a minute or two either way for clocks not perfectly synchronized. It's freaking XC people. Does your clock work perfectly on the cross course? Do you even wear a clock? And this happened 10 years ago before all that iPod crap. Can anyone really say for sure exactly which girl ran what time and the specific date down to the god damned minute? We aren't robots you know. Sometimes variables (minute, age, location, date, name, second, event) are difficult to jot down all at once. Things get mixed up, that's all part of the game.
i new a kid or a baby it was that ran 7:19 for 3k man that was awsome but no one was there xcept me.

Not sure if I can believe a 16:43 from her, but if it's legit then we might have another Hasay in our midst. Doint some quick 'Googling' reveals the majority of the other runners in the race ran significant PR's (or close to their PR's) in only their first race of the season.

It might have been with no training, but it was certainly done while wearing TRAINING shoes.

it doesn't matter. when the kid is 23 the performances then will mean more.
Dammit, I missed happy camper's post somehow. She looks older and more mature than most 12 year old girls.
10:30 3K is pace for a 17:30...ON THE TRACK. 16:43 solo for cross is a huge stretch. Basiccally it is like dropping over two minutes off her PB in the same season.
