if Deena actually cares about letsrun, let it motivate her to RUN, not jog a marathon.

Damn straight Wejo! This board is filled with a bunch of babies! It's a legitimate question regarding a 37-year-old often injured runner.
If Deena was a black Kenyan, would you all feel differently?
Perfectly acceptable discussion for the forum, but the HOT TOPIC: DEENA should RETIRE was tacky and at first look appeard as though it was a statement from Letsrun. How about "Should Deena retire?" with the link to the thread?
................
Thanks for the explanation as I'm sure it explained how the thread got on the front page to alot of posters. This is your page so you can do what you wish; however, justifying several posters discussing it made it feasible to post such a link is weak. Just because its a hot topic doesn't mean its in good taste or warrants such attention on the front page. How would WEJO or any of you feel if you or someone you knew enlighten you about a popular website with a highlighted link saying "YOU should retire"?
The general makeup of Letsrun posters have changed over the last two-three years and most posters now just want to swim in juvenile and negative topics. I understand it was automatically pick due to interest but just because many juveniles/insensitive posters found it interesting doesn't make it appropriate to be center stage of the front page.
Maybe this is why the message boards are filled with tools and bashers that have nothing positive to contribute. You rarely see the likes of Daniels or Canova or Hadd on the threads anymore.
I guess when a thread about anal sex pops up on the front page because that is what people are talking about Wejo will change his mind.

It clearly and in large type says "On The Boards"...it's clear that it isn't the opinion of Letsrun that she should retire.
Yesterday, HOT TOPIC: DEENA should RETIRE was part of the main heading/quote of the day area. A quick look at the front page and you thought Wejo/Rojo was making a statement about Deena's future.
What you seem to be saying wejo is that an elite runner can't run a bad race or two without officially getting ripped to shreds on letsrun because "that's what people are talking about".
That's a weak explanation that denigrates the entire sport.
By your sanction wejo, you have just given every moron the right to blast anyone who is deemed a "failure" in that person's expectations by demanding they end their career immediately. You don't think that's a little over-the-top? Whatever happened to running being a lifelong activity? Whatever happened to honoring our heroes and cutting them a little slack if they might occasionally come off as being human?
All you really prove wejo is how the internet really is a gigantic failure. Instead of promoting a positive running community, you kowtow to the slobs and morons instead. PAULA RADCLIFFE actually posted on this forum once. You ever wonder why she never came back?
If Ed Whitlock runs a 4:15 next marathon, whether he wants to run more marathons should solely be up to him. Same with Deena, same with anyone. If you want to further embarrass yourself, wejo, maybe next time suggest failing runners be immediately euthanized. After all, their worthlessness to the sport is diametrically opposite to your magnificent contributions, wejo.
It's unfortunate you can't be a leader in the sport, wejo. You have the ability to be the internet version of Cordner Nelson when it comes to being a promoter of distance running. Instead, you're running a tawdry little circus that has an increasingly bad odor to it.
And if you don't think so, wejo, maybe you ought to run a poll on it.
By allowing both sides to voice their opinions does not make it a negative topic. Have you ever listened to sports radio. The biggest stars are ripped daily. They are also defended daily. However, a runner is never discussed because they are not important enough. Wejo is saying that DEENA IS IMPORTANT enough to discuss. Do you feel that she is not important enough?

Why anyone would ever be aspiring to be an elite USA runner these days is beyond me. A lot of people run because they love to run. Deena has always been an approachable person who understands her place in the sport and the importance of giving back. Whether wejo deems DEENA IS IMPORTANT ENOUGH or not, I think it's more of a case of wejo wanting to think his site is still relevant.
There's nothing disrespectful about simply suggesting that a pro athlete is past her prime and should pursue something else. I'm not saying she should quit being a pro runner, because even though she's not near as fast as she was 5+ years ago she's still one of the top 10 marathoners in the US.
But there is a respectful and disrespectful way to go about it and from the responses on this and other related threads, some of us think it was done disrespectfully by the brojos.
If they had made a poll, is Deena shit, I would have be OK with that but telling her to retire is kind of I dont know pretentious.
This isn't a debate about is Deena important enough to warrant a discussion. The problem is plastering such a link on the front page and making it the center piece. Surely it fair game to discuss if some think she should retire or not but as any media outlet, there is a standard of decency and respect owed to the athletes/subject matter that should be upheld. A little more respect from the website (I know its beyond some of the posters) especially when the person has been a model athlete her entire career.Deena is one of my favorite athletes right up there with Kenenisa, Bernard, Tirunesh, Mebrahtom among a few others. Hope she takes my advice (ROFLMAO) and comes back and show she isn't finished as an elite athlete.....

I agree with Wejo: this is absolutely the type of thing that should be up for discussion.
Incidentally I don't think she needs to retire just yet. Her NYC HM recently was solid and indicates much better than what she just ran in London yesterday. (Although not competitive with the very best in the world.)
I think ALL Americans should retire they ALL suck.
my goodness you are sensitive... its a link. and a poll. get over it.

You like runners who take drugs?
Front page news, in any medium or topic, is news of greatest interest. This topic now has not one but TWO busy threads (thanks to you), so the interest is clear.
This isn't letsfan or letswank; there's no point in pretending that a hot topic is cold.
