Letsrun PLEASE get that DEENA link off the front page!

I'm not sure whether you realize this, but most elite runners try to avoid reading LR anyway. It's not exactly a place bristling with positive energy.

Agreed. Total sensationlism. What is it that makes that particular Thread "super hot"? Nothing! It is just another thread bashing a runner, it certainly does not deserve a special link on the front page.

Deena is a class act and should be treated as such by the brojos unless she proves otherwise. This rule should apply to ALL runners.

It was not a thread created to belittle anyone. She is a professional athlete. Professional athletes enjoy varying levels of fame and fortune when they are at their peak and unfortunately they will be criticized and questioned when they perform below our expectations. She is paid an appearance fee because she brings attention and interest to an event. The other side to that coin is that she is exposed if she doesn't perform.

SEVERAL years ago when I first visited this site it had numerous knowledgable fans, several elite athletes, a few well known coaches, and posters who enjoyed and respected the sport and the elite athletes. Over the years the numbers of the prementioned have dwindled and so have the reputation of the World Famous Board. In its place is a board ruled by juvenile type posters and moderators who seeked to entertain them with insensitive material and stories/links on the front page.

Someone posted on another thread RIP Deena Drossin...well I say the Letsrun moderators' maturity should join her as well if thats the case- RIP!

Another Vote to bring down the link... aka bump

The tasteless link on the front page is a reflection of Letsrun. This website used to be a wonderful informative venue in which mature athletes and fans came to share their opinions and running experiences; however, the kids and immature moderators have ruined a once decent website.

Deena Drossin have accomplished more than WEJO, any moderator, or couch potatoe fan have in her running career and she will again in the future. What would be amazing if the moderators decided to show some class once in their lives and take the link down!

Vipam, I agree that a link pointing to the thread is likely in poor taste. However this isn't a worship board for the elite, it's a free for all opinion board. I would like to see smarter discussions and more respect and decency toward the elite runners, but I don't believe we foster that by censoring idiots who post nonsense. I DO agree that there doesn't need to be a link promoting the nonsense. You got your opinion out just fine. And it better reasoned and more respectful so the board has balance.

There is no balance for Deena on the front page because there is only a link to the one thread.

I somewhat agree that the message board is / should be fair game, but the front page should be used to PROMOTE running and professional runners. Save the front page bashing for cheaters and druggies.

I assume you were referring to the link that was on the center of the homepage "Super Hot on LetsRun: Deena PLEASE RETIRE".

We've been experimenting with a new feature. If a thread is getting a ton of activity on the boards it automatically gets highlighted there. So yes, I did set up the feature, but I am not the one who created interest in the topic. It was the community at LetsRun.com that did.

I thought about whether the poll on whether Deena should retire is disrespectful. This topic clearly interests a ton of people. It is what a lot of people are talking about. There is endless debate on whether Brett Favre should retire or comeback, when Roger Clemens was with the Red Sox and pitching badly there was a ton of debate. It is a part of mainstream sports.

Discussing whether Deena should or not retire is an honest question.

She has made millions of $ because people are interested in her career. To say people can't discuss whether she should end her career is crazy.
