didnt symmonds run like 5:17 or something?
former IU runner nick kruse once ran just about 5flat but the time wasn't official due to a technicality.

This is retarded. Be like showing a video of yourself holding your breath for 30 seconds...who the f*** cares?

I mean, this is letsrun. But, yeah, I agree with you, 2Pac.
I'm one of the little b!tches who got his @ss kicked by him and I have to say I'm not at all ashamed. He is a beast and a hell of an athlete, and his drinking skills are impressive. Love the haters though, keep it coming.
I look at it this way: size and weight slow you down, but help you hold alcohol. At that age I weighed about 120# and was a really cheap drunk. A few more years and a few more pounds and I can hold my liquor much better.
But anyway, good showing for a thrower against a bunch of runners.

6:59 is slow as f***. Everyone of the skinny kids should be ashamed of themselves. Letting a 250 pound thrower beat you in a mile race is pathetic. Original poster- don't post anymore.
Lamest beer mile ever. A handful of people running slowly and looking like tools. Everything about this video is pathetic.
OK, tough guy--we'll wait until you post video of your own beer mile.
Is this some track in the ghetto in Nashville? Its definitely not Vandy...
as a fairly experienced beer miler, having run 7 or 8 of them, with PR's of 6:28 for the 4-beer beer mile and 6:49 for the 5-beer (also finish with a beer, how we did it running for uc davis) beer mile, i feel like i have some insight to lend here.
1) obviously this is letsrun.com, so there will be people posting on opposite ends of the spectrum, i.e. those guys were all pussies, even the throwers and their video was terrible vs. that was great fun let's see more.
i think the balanced view is that joe frye ran a solid race, although the "WR" is about 1:50 faster, and the other guys could use some practice and training, but their video was still fun to watch.
2) filming one of these events, particularly for 'official' consideration on beermile.com, is difficult. my friends and i, former uc davis runners, are currently going through this process. we ran a race over thanksgiving and the top three finished in 6:28 (me), 6:29, and 6:30. however i was in 4th on the first lap and the leader of that lap puked and finished in like 11 minutes. so it is a debate as cameraman(woman in this case) who to follow and at what zoom level. in our case she chose to focus on the transition area to document appropriate beer chugging by all competitors, while unfortunatly we only see portions of the laps. retrospectively my friends and i have determined that two cameras, one focused on the transition chug zone, and one following prospective winners around the track, would be best.
3) i think joe frye demonstrated good race strategy. i find that often people either take the first beer and lap way too fast (i.e. 75 seconds combined, which is too fast unless your name is jim finlayson, WR holder), or they take all the laps too fast to try to make up time they lost on the beer chug. but running too fast leaves you out of breath and unable to chug fast enough. normally i will run slower than my opponents (this is partly also cause my 400 speed is only 62 and my mile 4:40), but i make up time on the beer chugs. i also use a breathe right strip to assist in nasal air flow so i can breathe easier while chugging.
4) yes there are rumors of several other people going around 5 minutes, and i'm sure if your balls are as big as craig mottram's you could probably run a sub 4:30 beer mile, but i think all those stories are tarnished by rumor and lack of evidence. as it stands beermile.com has the best inventory of 'official' performances so right now we all bow down to finlayson, and really, to that elite group of individuals who's officially run sub 6.
happy beer miling to all,
lonac
oh and also we are currently struggling to get our video off the camera and into a computer friendly format, as our video camera was really old, but if we are successful i'll try and post are video for you all the applaud and criticize.
*our* video not 'are'
better save myself from the assault of the grammaticianizers
It was everyones first beer mile, we all puked (yeah b!tch move but what can we say), and we had a pretty big party the night before. Amazing performance by a thrower (I'd ike to see another one in the NCAA beat him), and the rest of the track team needs to go learn to chug and not be "b!itches". It was Hillsborogh by the way. It was funny though.
Question for experienced beer milers out there. I'm a pretty respectable miler (4:10 when in shape; not currently in shape) and can chug a beer as fast as the next guy, but I'm terrible at the beer mile. My problem seems to be carbonation. I get so bloated after the second beer that I feel like I will puke if I run any faster. Tips? Is it just being able to belch while running?
And to set the record straight (some earlier posts seemed confused on this point), the alcohol in the beer is entirely irrelevant. No one is getting drunk the in the 6-9 minutes it takes to run one of these things.
It was shocking the fat guy beat al the distance guys!
I would never have guessed a fatter dude would win because of fittness, but i guess it makes sense
The alcohol is not about getting drunk, it's about making it harder to drink quickly. It's much easier to chug a Bud Light than a Bud Ice.
i always drink my beers at room temperature or so. when they are cold it slows it down a bunch. but yes, dealing with the carbonation (by belching) is an enormous key.
make sure your stomach isn't too empty going into the race, that just leaves more room for gases to expand.
Jeezuz H. Kafugging Cahrist - I couldn't watch it with that shit music playing.
What the f*** is wrong with you punk asses who make these great videos and muck them up with that Eminem garbage or whatever that talentless rambling blaring throughout happened to be.
