I'm interested to see how Teg responds with a fast race of his own. Is he in another top 5k anytime soon? He def looks like he was in PR shape....it would be absolutely huge if he took down sub 13 in the same year.

WHY would Bekele ever request a 3k? If wants the jackpot, of course his chances are better over 5k than 3k.
According to the IAAF and meet websites, its still a 5k, not a 3k, but I can;t find entries anywhere
How will Teg respond? With "congratulations" one would think. This social skills stuff really isn't that hard, folks.
I think Teg should give the 10k a shot.

Who can beat Bekele over 3K? Nobody.
I really don't think Teg will ever run that fast. He may break 13 but not that 12:56 mark. But he shouldn't even be the topic of conversation. Webb, Rupp, and Fernandez provide a much more interesting story these days. Then again I still think Fernandez is alittle overrated. He could turn out to be another Manzano. Yes. I'm saying Manzano hasn't impressed me much since his Freshman year at UT. I expected him to be a 3:32 by the time he graduated if not faster.

There are plenty of people that could take him down.
Why risk it when only Lagat can come close over 5K
Tegenkamp talked at Worlds how he was running the 5k in Brussels. He said the decision was whether to do Zurich or Brussels after worlds and they decided on Brussels.
I'm sure Teg is shocked but also thinks, "if he can do I can do it."
Moorcroft ran 13:00 27 years ago. Crazy to think only 4? white guys have done it since.
Fastly.

Teg is more of an impact on the world scene than Rupp, and will continue to be more of an impact on the world scene than Rupp.
By the way, which of those guys (Rupp, Webb, Fernandez) have finished as high as 4th in a world championship?

Are you serious? Teg shouldn't even be the topic of conversation!!! Webb (not finishing the season), Rupp (cooked from too much of 4 seasons), Fernandez (still a pup and not close to the world scene yet) and then you have Ritz and Teg who both have looked very good this year. Teg followed Ritz in hs; hurt too much in college (they both were actually, but Teg even moreso) and now Teg has had a better pro career up to this point. Now Ritz has a fabulous race and all of a sudden you say Teg will never run that fast!! His 8:07.07 shows he has great potential; his 4th at Worlds in '07 shows even more. Teg needs this motivation and the U.S. needs 3-4 or even 5 or 6 guys fighting to push the pace instead of always being followers. Teg, Ritz, and some of these younger athletes can help American distance running take another huge step, but they need each other and Ritz knocked off a legend (Bob Kennedy) and now U.S. distance running can move forward. Thanks Ritz, and congratulations! Teg, your turn! Hall, your up again! Webb, where are you? Rupp, next year! Solinsky, it's time for another big jump forward! Fernandez, Derek, Puskedra close on them and push them even more!!!!
Please don't feed the troll.
Teg's plan all summer has been to take a crack at the AR after worlds and I doubt the record getting marginally faster will change that plan.
I'm excited. Ritz has raised the bar. If you think that Ritz, who doesn't even specialize in the 5k, running a sub 13, AR 12:56 won't motivate Teg and Solinsky beyond the motivation that had before... well then we'll just have to disagree on that point. Not to say that they weren't planning on trying to run fast already, but this is clearly some extra incentive. Sub-13 can be done. Hopefully Brussels pans out similarly with the pace!
I don't think its a blatant troll attempt. I like Teg but he didn't look that great at Worlds. The race played perfectly to his strengths and he couldn't cpaitalize. I think he will be lucky to match his 13:04 in Brussels. The next few years he will challnge that mark but he just doesn't seem to have it this year and lets face it, Ritz had the race of his life. Teg needs to be in the shape of his life, have everything work out to plan and not be distracted by Ritz's recent accomplishment. It will definitely fuel him in the future but the fact that it happened so unexpectedly and all of a sudden might have knocked the wind out of Teg a little bit. And as for Solinsky he is not in the same league as these guys a 13 10 would be great for him though and it seems doable.
Tegenkamp and Solinsky have to be extremely jealous.
Next year there is only European CC. Time for all the great Americans to chase some fast time on the European circuit.
2010 is gonna be a great year for American middle and long distance running!

You sound as though you've been following the sport for the past two weeks, dude.
Manzano made the finals at Worlds. Fernandez ran 3:55 indoors off a broken foot injury and 3:39 at the NCAA's.
You're an idiot.

3:39 is not that good of a time.
