I just bought some Avia running shoes on sale for $19. Figured I could use them on easy runs. I've never even heard of Avia. Anyone have any experience with them or have I just bought crap?

The cantilever sole is a thing of beauty!
I loved Avia back in the mid 90's. Their current line isn't so great, but $19 is a steal.
They had the best commericals a couple of years ago with the roadkill puppets giving props to distance runners.
For that reason alone I feel I should buy a pair.
I just bought 3 pairs for $63. As long as they don't lead to injuries, it was a good deal and will be used for slow easy miles.
I got a free pair at a race a few years ago. They're somewhere between K-Mart shoes and the low end Nikes. My dad swore by Avias in the 80's though.

Yeah, that is exactly what I thought. Figure I'll use them as a cheap trainer. I'll be interested in how many miles I'll get out of them.
Avia's in the 80's were a chicks shoe.
Your father swore by them?
Suspicious.
Do you look like any of your mothers' friends? ;-)
Seriously are you wearing Avia or bringing that to the table? Avia.
I believe they evolved from the Osaga line that I wore in gr. 8 (27 years ago). Sky blue with red stripes. Good times. Next pair were Nike Daybreaks.

I think I had a pair of Daybreaks. Tan with an orange swoosh?

YES. And for basketball I wore adidas Americanas. Those were good times.

lol the cantilever
Won a pair in a race and quickly got hurt in them. They are not good.
Avia is such a weird brand.
Honestly, some stores you'll find their shoes for $19.99. I think Payless near me used to carry them.
Then, at other stores, I've seen them go for $110.
No joke.
One of the founders of Avia (sold company years ago) has his house for sale for $19.5 million. If you want a 5.5 acre island in Lake Oswego, Oreogn maybe he can arrange to through in some free shoes for you?
