The mens 5000m looks like a strong contingent. Here's the start list.
Men's 5000m
Name Nat
MARKOS GENETI ETH
BEKANA DABA ETH
DEJEN GEBREMESKEL ETH
NICK MCCORMICK GBR
EDWIN SOI KEN
BERNARD LAGAT USA
MICAH KOGO KEN
GEBRE GEBREMARIAM ETH
JUAN LUIS BARRIOS MEX
ABDI ABDIRAHMAN USA
ARON RONO KEN
SAHLE WARGA ETH
BOBBY CURTIS USA
HABTEMU FIKADU
ETH
THOMAS LONGOSIWA KEN
OSPHAT BOIT KEN
HARON LAGAT KEN
SAM CHELANGA KEN
I say it comes down to Lagat, Longosiwa, Kogo, and Soi. I give Lagat the edge though. It could be a good opportunity for someone like Bobby Curtis to give an A standard qualifying time, and I wonder what Chelanga is capable of since his 13:19i run in early February.

My pick is Longisiwa.Lagat for a close 2nd.
I reckon the likes of Kogo and geneti will push the pace very early( a fast pace suits them and they are coming off fast 10Ks).Lagat is not yet at his peak ,Longisiwa ran 7.30 for 3000 . -
One of Abdi, Curtis, Barrios and Chelanga to go sub 13.10.
On form I think Kogo should win but Lagat always finds a way somehow!! -
didn't Gebremariam just win XC worlds? i saw he'll be in the mix for the win also
-
According to the schedule, the mens 5,000 wont be on TV. That sucks hard.
-
With any luck, it will make it online.

when was the last time gebremariam won a 5000 on the track in an international field? his pb 12:52 is from 2005, and his best times from each of the past 3 years were 13:36(2008), 13:10(2007), and 13:30(2006). he might be good in cross and the longer distances, but that doesn't mean he's going to come out blazing a fast 5000 in late spring. he'll be with the lead pack, but i don't think he'll be in contention for the win. not with wheels like lagat and longosiwa out there.

-seriously? if you are not his brother, cousin, father, or even remote friend, then you are a complete tool. -
it'll be interesting to see how Daba finishes, considering his indoor races with Rupp and Chelanga, as well as his Carlsbad victory. He is a young guy near 13:00, he might stir up a little trouble in the race. plus you have geneti in there who rupp beat over 3K and 5K indoors. hopefully Rupp will get into a race like this in the summer and see where the bottom of his well looks now.
anyone picking Chelanga over Abdi? Abdi and Lagat are training together right now so they are probably pretty strong. -
I'll take Chelanga over Abdi. I don't know why, but I've got that feeling that Abdi is not 5k sharp right now. Even if he does train with Lagat, that doesn't mean they train for speed together.
I'd agree that Daba is a dark horse who could surprise some people, but if the race is 13:10 pace or slower, I say Lagat outkicks anyone who is within 10m of him and 600m to go.
I predict a sub 13:10 race but not sub 13:00. If Lagat wins it, it would have to be closer to 13:10. I can see him not winning if the race finishes closer to 13:02-13:00. -

gebremariam is very famous to people on lets run, he has won world xc 2 twice once as a junior once as a senior, his times of 12:52 for 5k and 26:52 for 10k would be the american records by a lot if he were american, he is married to the great werknesh kidane who has run 14:33 for 5k and 30:07 for 10k which would also be american records by a lot if she were american, kidane also has won 2 world xc titles one as a junior one as a senoir and kidane has 8 top 3 finishes at world xc, kidane and gebremariam would be the best american husband and wife running couple ever if they were american, and they are the fastest 5 and 10k couple ever besides t. dibaba and sihine, they have 2 boys nathaniel and musa age 3 and 1 who probably have genetics to be good runners.
gebremariam and kidane have more world xc medals than any couple in history. -

I hope they're American, at least. -

I still don't think Gebremariam will win the 5k at Reebok. I think the information i provided up above about his performances at 5000m over the last 3 years is a little more relevant than who he is married to and the names of his children when considering who might be in contention for the win at Reebok, which is now a "diamond league grand prix" supposedly. -
13:04.50 = NA allcomers record, bet bunnies paid to assult that so 8:15 @3000 would be expected.

i dont think gebremariam will win saturday either, i was making a point that he is extremely well known in running.
