Looking at this objectively, Derrick has ran faster in both XC and track. (5k is more important distance than 2mile). And his track time was completely solo, his first hard effort of the season, and very early in the season. These, of course, are variables, but so are Virgin's 100 degree heat, russian comp, etc.
And its pointless to say Virgin crushed his comp. So did Derrick, he beat Kevin Havel (8:50y) by a lot at the state meet and Colby Lowe (8:47y) at NXN.
Its impossible to say that one runner is better than another (in terms of their HS achievements), but to say that they are not on the same level is ignorant and stupid.
