This boils down to racist views really against white athletes. This is why we have soo few fast white athletes in what would be considered speed events. These people get moved out of speed positions in sports from a young age by stupied dads that would have to study for a life time to be broken of there racism against there own people in athletics. For lewis johnson to say that it just shows you how ignorant he is..
what utter nonsense and what a pathetic lame excuse for whitey being slow. If white dads had sons who were sprinting past every damn kid on the football field, the soccer field, the basketball field or the track(or wherever), he (and the coaches around, and the other kids, and so on) would IMMEDIATELY say: kid, you are one fast motherf'r, we gotta get you in the sprints. How do you think Jeremy Wariner decided to try track??? Because he was running circles around the blacks kids on the football field and obviously was encouraged to try track. Before you know it he was running a 45 400. But no, according to you, there's a great conspiracy against whitey to keep him down in the speed events. ha ha ha How lame and sad.
And let me guess, there's a great conspiracy to let East African take drugs, and that is why they are as far ahead of whitey in the 10,000 as the west african descended athletes are as far ahead of whitey in the 100, right??
Poor, poor whitey, always being kept down by Political Correctness. what a f***ing joke.
First off you complete show lack of intel here. Number one Jeremy started off as a baseball player. Which happens to be in the same season as track. On a side note since you brought him up. Why is it that we sooooo many people talking about him pushing up to the 800 and not staying down on the 200 get stronger (lift some weights) to work on his first half of his 400??? Probobly because of his skin color.
The East Africans are studs and yes the difference in their genes are so different then West Africans. In fact the rest of the globe can not match African in its bio deversity. You sir are A Ho@$
Secondly if you want to take this further look how quick you are to judge me as I speak for whites and the poster of this original message. Assumed that the announce was white because of the things he was saying??? Interesting.
Your giddy use of the term "whitey" kind of makes you come across as, well, you know, the racist that you are.
I heard the comment that basically asserted that Clement would have an advantage over the honkstresses in any sprint situation. I was taken aback for a second, but then I realized such shit blended in so well with the ongoing ineptitude of track announcers over the years that I quit worrying about it.
I'm surprised someone didn't mention that Wariner, being the only white guy in the 400 final, showed a lot of chutzpah wearing half-tights like everyone else given that his heritage didn't endow him with a flaccid pecker with the proportions of a good-sized summer squash.
I'm fed up with people who are offended by people's opinions. Who cares if he thinks blacks are faster? They generally ARE faster. The 800 was the exception, but look at the medal stand in every event in Beijing, from the 100m to the marathon, and tell me what color you see mostly. 90% of the mens medalists, and at least 80% of the womens medalists, will be black, guaranteed.
Political correctness is over. The time to get offended is long past. Jimmy the Greek had it right. People got offended then, and he lost his job, but no one ever said he was wrong either. It was just taboo, had to remain unspoken. You shouldn't ever be fired for stating the blatantly obvious. If anything, you should be fired for pretending the obvious doesn't exist, because you are lying to your audience and yourself.
Guys like Wariner are the exception, and there is no reason to ignore the fact that he is the one white face you see at the trials out of the 100, 200, 100h, 400, 400h, TJ, and LJ. They should shout out into their NBC microphones, "HEY, CAN YOU BELIEVE THERE IS A WHITE GUY SPRINTING, AND HE'S DOING WELL!" The real crime is that they try to never ever bring it up.
Do you spend much time looking for ways to have your feelings hurt? Get over it.
And the Costas interview with the "fish" was one of the greatest ever, funny yet pertinent. Did that offend you, too?
I can't believe anyone is voting for McCain- white, black, yellow, whatever.

I understand what you are saying, but what if you substituted intelligence for speed? Sure, there are extremely articulate, capable, and sholarly blacks, but are they the exception rather than the rule? How offensive is that? After all, look at the stats. Look at all standardized test scores and look at grades at all schools. Whites and Asians are doing better. If there can be a clear difference in athleticism, why can't there be a difference in intelligence--given that there are also exceptions? Or could it be a sociological phenomenon? Could it be that announcers say things like this and people believe it so they don't try as hard? Sports like tennis, golf, and swimming aren't dominated by Blacks, but now we have Serena and Venus and Tiger (mixed race but most commonly identified as African-American).
If it's okay for you to have people say that the Black guy is probably going to win because "those people" are better at "that" sort of thing. Please respond in kind when kids go to take the SAT. Statistics will support you in your statement just like those stats will support you with your statement about sports. But when there are a bunch of candidates for becoming a Rhodes Scholar or a Westinghouse Award Winner, aren't we really talking about people who aren't Black, Asian, White, Hispanic, or whatever? Aren't we talking about some really smart people who all have a pretty good chance of winning because how would they have gotten there in the first place if they weren't capable of winning?
The fact is that this subject is a lot more complicated than you say and turnabout is fair play. Maybe there are ways to look at things and respond to them without being simplistic, offensive, or hypersensitive, but given the responses here, maybe I am completely wrong.
this thread has again made me realize that the posters on letsrun are generally retarded and always looking for something to cry about.
Pointing out the one African American in a heat of 12 is racist against African Americans. If they point out the one white dude in the 100m it is racist against the African Americans as well.
Seriously people, do you not have anything to do this summer?

Sort of a dumb statment to pose. Black ppl usually vote democratic for one and what percent of white voters do you think McCain draws?
As far as "racist" voting goes, Giuliani used to get 97 percent of the vote in the largely Italian-American districts of Staten Island. And I wonder how many whites in Mississippi in Alabama will vote for Obama...not a heck of a lot.
If I'm not mistaken, Lewis Johnson identified Clement as the African-American and said she would have an advantage in a sprint, but he did NOT make a cause-effect statement to suggest that African-Americans are necessarily faster sprinters. It was something like, "Treniere Clement--she's the African-American athlete--should have an advantage if it comes down to a sprint." In other words, T.C. would have an advantage in a sprint, and by the way, if you don't know which one she is, she's the African-American. He identified her as the African-American athlete because if he had identified her as the Nike athlete she would have been indistiguishable from the other eight Nike athletes in that heat.
In a couple generations there wont be racism (everything wont be percieved as being racist) and people wont bicker about stupid s*** like everyone on here does. I bet the majority of you arguing on here are 40+ and had to see times when race rules were more pronounced or heard about it from your parents who were in the thick of it.
People are just people.
I am offended by the stupidity of this discourse.

Why not, "TC, the runner in 5th wearing blue and white has great finishing speed, and may have the advantage over the final 200".
Lets face it, it was a racist comment.

Because African Americans have historically always supported Democratic candidates. Look at 2004, Kerry got 88% of the African American vote. Have you ever payed attention to politics or voting patterns in your life?
After the meet the broadcasters went out and attended some social functions.
Yes, they are the exception rather than the rule. No, there is nothing wrong with that, either. I agree, there is a big difference in intelligence too, one that always gets swept under the wrong. For the last 100 years, blacks have scored about 15 points lower (about 1 standard deviation) than whites, even when adjusted for things like income and other socioeconomic factors. And there is nothing wrong with this either. It is what it is. And it is OK to talk about it.One could write a book on why certain races perform better or worse than others in different areas, such as athleticism, intelligence, etc. Many books have been written, in fact. I'm not going to get into the "whys" here. What gets me though, is when people deny that differences exist at all, or fail to acknowledge them. Whites like Wariner are exceedingly rare. Black Rhodes scholars are also exceedingly rare. That Visa commercial with Morgan Freeman that played throughout the trials pissed me off to no end. He kept saying how we are really all the same, when in fact we are very very different. Denying this shit over and over again does nothing to help anyone, other than hide the truth and try to make everyone feel good.
