Olympic Trials Racist Remarks by Announcer

I'm pretty sure that was Lewis Johnson (an African America) who made the comment about Clement being black. Not sure how Al Sharpton would pull that one off.

The Clement remarks were made during the 1500 semis, not the 5000.

I did hear it though and have the same thoughts as you. And now that you mention it I remeber the 800 comment as well. Very sad when you think about it.

I don't think he "meant anything" by it, if he did indeed say what you allege. That's the problem though, no one ever "means anything" with all the PC crap. They've just been brainwashed that you have to refer to certain people in a hyphenated manner. If you're going to do that, whatever. But why didn't he refer to caucasians with equal respect?

Are you sure it wasn't more like (if it were written) "Treneire Clement (being the African Aerican in the group) will have advantage over the final 200" ??

What if Dwight Stone would have said, "Lewis, this is the 1500 and as you can see, because it's 1500, the caucasions in the race all have a superior chance over this distance".

you people are being overly sensitive. Terell clement was the only black girl in the race and he was pointing her out by describing her. Not everyone that watch theses games know who these people are. When the announcer desccribed her I then knew who he was referring to.

I think the Clement comment went more like "She is the African American(to those of you who don't follow the sport that is who she is) and she has the best kick in that group(the group of runners she is around.) Quit trying to make there be something that wasn't there. He was simply id'ing her for the auidence as to which athlete she was. I suppose he could have said she was the woman in fifth, but African American was a good description, seeing as she is that.

No, they are voting for someone who is very similar to them. I would expect that McCain gets 80% of white male veterans' votes.

What do you mean by "you people"? Nice, we're now "you people", huh?

Also, why doesn't he refer to someone like Shalane or Kara as a European-American, or something equally considerate and respectful when they're mixing it up with African runners? You know, to make it easy for the viewer at home to follow along. I'll tell you why. Because he doesn't feel he has to respect them in this way. Not saying he goes out of his way to be disrespectful, or that he does this intentionally. It's just that not many people in American society feel they have to afford caucasians the same respect that they do with other ethnicities.

And of course, all in the name of equality.

PS: The young lady's name is Treniere.

I only wish Lewis Johnson, who I like as an announcer, could have referred to Manzano at least one time other than "the short guy, he's only 5'5". It started to sound derogatory although I don't think he meant it that way. Including the heats and final, I remember at least 4 references to how short he is and it was not for identification every time.

This boils down to racist views really against white athletes. This is why we have soo few fast white athletes in what would be considered speed events. These people get moved out of speed positions in sports from a young age by stupied dads that would have to study for a life time to be broken of there racism against there own people in athletics. For lewis johnson to say that it just shows you how ignorant he is.

I would take this a step further and say that mixed racial athletes seem to do the best. Look Bryan Clay and Lolo Jones. The young 400 runner from Canada is another example. I just think that has nothing to do with speed of a so so and soo and hard work of a soo.

Instead it comes down to science and something know as hybrid vigor. Where the more biodeverse (spelling) the parents the best chance the genetic code puts the strongest young child out into the world.
