Does anyone ever experiance very sore forearms during races? I've been having a problem with this since XC. What could it be and how could I fix it.

Practice doing some strides while holding 2 pringles in each hand. If the chips break you have your problem.
Oh, you think I might be clenching my fists too tight? Would it be beneficial if I had someone massage them before my race?
bump
are you spending too much time using your forearm muscles repetitively prior to races? i've heard that occurs in young men who watch my videos.
Ummm actually I'm a girl, so no.
No, massage isn't the answer. Correct the problem. Shoulder tightness, inflexible elbow and clenched fists combine to form the problem. Work on your biomechanics. Glad to elaborate if you'd like.
please elaborate
Ray, any additional info you could give me would be great. :-)
Everything originates with the arms.
Faster the arms move, faster the legs will move.
Thumb and pointer should be held slightly together like the "ok" sign. The other fingers separated and held loose. NO TENSION.
Now move thumb sligthly toward index finger. Thumbs should be up (Nail toward the sky). Note this will bring the elbow closer to the body and allow a natural swing of the arm.
As mentioned earlier, practice with the pringles.
Arms should flex and rotate at both the elbow and the shoulder. Too many.. particularly women, "lock" the elbow resulting in shoulder sway and hip rotation.
Keep the shoulders loose and actually work on raising the shoulders slightly as you inhale lower as you exhale. This will increase full lung aeration and work to stop inhibition of the breathing mechanism.End result is pain that sometimes occurs in shoulder area and possibly down into forearms is decreased.
E mail is added if you have any more questions. Good luck.

ahahahahahh
Keep your hands slightly open instead of clenched, as though you are holding ski poles. Shake your wrists out, make sure they are loose. Have someone videotape you running. Drop your elbows a bit when you drive them, lift your hands and relax your shoulders, especially on uphills.
