How many here train on Christmas day and if so what workout are you planning for this year? I'm thinking of doing a 40min tempo run.

so that I can see my kids open presents in morning I am planning my 5 mile run at 6am! No pm run so 26 dec will be my workout tempo run as usual. Hope father xmas brings me new trainers, gloves and hat!
Christmas, a Tuesday this year, has fallen on my hill workout, 10x200m hill 6x400m hill. I'm pretty sure that equates to a lump of coal in my stocking.
I just won't do any doubles on the 24th-26th. Haven't decided what I'll do but probably about 10-12 miles.

Your post cracks me up. I have done hill repeats on Christmas and gotten a lot of flack over it. I've also just run easy along a path going along a golf course. Lots of free-loading golfers hopping on to the course to get a free round.
Sure, why not? I do - New Year's Day as well. It's generally pretty quiet on the roads for both occasions which often makes it an easier run.
Christmas falls on a Tuesday this year, which just happens to be a day off right now. Man, I can't wait till I'm up to running 6 days per week again.

Dude take the day off. Running isn't that important.
for real, take running off once in awhile. kick back and have a worry-free day.
16 mile long run planned.

Dude, I am going to be at my in-laws and we don't have any of our own kids, so those miles out on the road might be the best worry-free parts of the day! :)

-geez. get some priorities, man. quit making your family suffer because of your selfish addiction. give up the ghost and enjoy life already, man.

Why do you assume that running means that a person isn't enjoying life? I know it's a crazy idea, but some of us actually enjoy running and see a long run in the woods as a good way of celebrating. You act as if the guy you are responding to is neglecting his family. You think his kids will be up by 7am? I doubt it. Yeah, his family is suffering because he's going for a run before they are even awake. I can see why you thought it was worth posting that three times though.
I usually do if my schedule says I should.
Last year did 6x1500 on the local track in half melted snow.Christmas? Humbug
Great topic.
I love running on the holidays. I'm an introvert and I can only take so much time sitting in a house with 20 family members. I don't think there's anything wrong with running on Christmas. I enjoy running, and I like to do things I enjoy over the holidays. I especially enjoy running when I don't have to squeeze 12 miles into early morning hours.
I'm doing 6 miles at 6am (which is sleeping in for me, but should get me done before anyone wakes up).
Then, later in the afternoon, I'm going to do some kind of a tempo. If the footing is good, I'll do a 5k tempo. If the footing is bad, I'll do 12k.
I have never missed a run on xmas day for over 20 years.
In fact if i am down for a rest day i switch it to another day so i can run on xmas day.
More often than not it is a 10 mile run to Redcar on the North east coast of england to the in laws ,shower and a cup of tea open presents and back home for dinner.
This is a great compromise ,i feel great after my run and dont have to spend ages at the in laws .They do not realy like me and i feel the same about them so everybody is happy !!
Anyone who doesn't train on Christmas day (or New Years Day) is soft. I'll be out there, don't have a plan for what it'll be.
