Still thinking Hall is the fastest maraton debutant???
Still thinking Hall is the fastest maraton debutant???
Wanjiru - TOO EASY!

Blasphemy. Hall's 2:09:02 was, is, and always will be the greatest marathon performance of all time.
Wanjiru may break 2 hours, but will not compare to Hall's victory in abominable conditions on a mountainous course. Hall had to contend with a 20,000 foot elevation gain, driving rains, and his celebrations cost him at least 4 minutes. Plus, Fukuoka is probably a short course, with perfect weather conditions, and a net elevation loss of 10,000 feet. Oh, and Wanjiru is probably drugged up by Jos Hermens.
- Typical Letsrun poster.
Hall is juiced. Americans who are always cheats. Never trust them. Check yourself first. Wanjiru is not coach by Hermens - shame shame.
Umm, you did realize that my entire post was meant to be sarcastic?
So, you claim that only America has the correct marathons courses? That Haile's WR in Berlin, Germany is short - what a shame for the pride you! Fukuoka's course is ratified by IAAF just like NYC, London name it....
The 08 oly marathon is going to one of the most stacked.
Who does kenya send.
Defn, Martin Lel who is blazing hot right now. Then there is wanjiru and possible Luke Kibet from the world champs. And Mutai 2:06.59.. and ofcoarse paul tergat
The Ethiopians have Haile and possibly deribe merga and tsegaye kebede... an unkown guy who just did a 15 k hard training and then ran the GeR 10K the next day and destroyed the field. 2:08 debut
The Japanese have sato aburya.
Eritrea has yonas kifle... 2:07 this kid can win it.
Morrocco has gamouri and gharib.
Other suspects
Oleksandr Kuzin UKR
the swiss guy that finished 3rd at world champs 2:08
even a chinese guy ran 2:08
So as we view ryan's great performance i think the likelyhood of winning this race is less than 10%. He can get a medal...
But one factor that changes everything is the horrible conditions in china.. with the pollution and the heat.
That could be a factor in switching things around and some no name scrub can win this thing

You do understand what sarcasm is, don't you? I use it as a polemic.
Just to clarify for you:
I do not think that any of Hall's marathons were special.
I do not think that any of Hall's marathons were run in difficult conditions or on particularly difficult courses.
I do not think that the celebrations cost Hall that much time.
I do not think that Fukuoka is a short course.
I do not think that Fukuoka had perfect conditions today.
I do not think that Fukuoka is net downhill.
I DO NOT think that Wanjiru is on drugs.
I KNOW that Wanjiru is NOT coached by Hermens.
I was simply trying to lampoon the typical letsrun poster who worships Hall and denigrates athletes of East African origins. Evidently my sarcastic tone was not apparent enough, which means my entire comedic turn was effectively blunted.
Wow, wire2 - you are really dense.
Rorkes' sarcastic post exemplifies the typical letsrunner perfectly.

Not very intelligent, are you?

On the flipside, I kind of want to whittle down Wanjiru's 2:06 based on excuses in the way LetsRun posters whittled down Hall's 2:09 to a 2:05.

Who thought that Hall had the fastest marathon debut. Not anyone I'm aware of.

to be fair, wire2 didn't say that Hall had the fastest marathon debut, just that he was the fastest marathon debutant. There is a difference.
Wire2 really missed that joke didnt he?
Sounds like wire2 speaks English as a second language, and is thus unable to pick up on sarcasm. Wanjiru's race doesn't change anything about Hall's race -- neither are the fastest debut marathon, as the Letsrun front page notes. That was Evans Rutto in 2:05:50.
But just because Rutto runs 2:05 (or Wanjiru runs 2:06), that doesn't mean that Hall running 2:08 isn't impressive, unless your tiny pea-brain is so small that it can only be impressed by one thing at once.

I'm pretty sure nobody thought that, because everybody knows he never was the fastest.
Don't worry about it: WWIII will have broken out before the Beijing Games.
Wanjiru will break Haile's world record by huge margin...He ran faster than Geb..on the same course and broke the course record!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! holyshit! this boy is freaking amazing! He always takes the races to new level.
He will break it next year either in Berlin or Middle East.
Yeah, you had his coach said he had only a month and half training under his belt instead of three. He may be the first man to run under 2.03
