What an excellent piece of detective work by that Oliver Holt.
The actual circumstances of Uhuruogo’s missed tests were always shrouded in mystery and I’m sure we were told that the testers turned up - and if the athlete wasn’t actually there at that moment - the testers gave no time allowance for the athlete to reach them - they simply marked it as a failed test.
Now we know Uhuruogo was given an hour’s grace - but still ignored the offer.
So Oliver Holt, as most of our more, so-called eminent, sports writers should have done - simply went out and travelled the route Uhuruogo would have used and despite a load of cock-ups, still made it under the hour.
I know what the reaction would have been here in Britain had, for instance, some American or Chinese 400mt runner turned up out of the blue after a years drug ban and after a couple of races had pipped our Nicola Sanders to the world championship gold.
With our record now - we in Britain no longer have the right to point the finger at any dubious figure in world athletics.
