Screw the NFL Network

I'm just angry at the Patriots because they had to win again last night, and at Feeley and the Eagles for choking last night when they were in perfect position to beat those sacks of shit.

Well, I didn't watch it. After watching two other games I decided to skip that one. Are the Pats beatable, then?

I did see the Bears beat Denver. God Denver fell apart at the end of that game. Grossberger (Grossman) finally won a game.

do you complain about games being on espn, as well? seriously, if you're a person interested in sports, i have no idea why you don't have the sports package on your cable.

ESPN is part of basic cable packages isn't it? I do have the NFL network because I have a dish and it comes with it, but I think it is stupid to have to have.

I don't get the Grossberger reference though, is that suppose to be funny for some reason?

IRVING, Texas - Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is still urging NFL fans to pull the plug on cable, especially those who want to see next week's NFC showdown of 10-1 teams on NFL Network.

The Cowboys and Green Bay Packers both won Thanksgiving Day, a week before they play for the outright NFC lead.

The NFL Network has been in a dispute with large cable providers who don't carry the network on a basic tier. The network is available in about 35 million of the nation's more than 111 million homes with televisions.

"I am frustrated that we've got literally several million fans that won't get to see that game because Time Warner won't be carrying it," Jones said in the locker room after the Cowboys' 34-3 victory over the New York Jets. "I'm hot about that. I hope those fans will go to AT&T satellite or go over to a competing cable company."

Time Warner is the primary cable provider in the Dallas area.

Jones is the outspoken chairman of the league's NFL Network committee. His comments came just three days after Comcast, the nation's largest cable company, sent a cease-and-desist letter to the NFL Network demanding the channel's representatives stop encouraging fans to leave the cable provider.

"I know I have been given a cease and desist to quit saying that, but that is a fact," Jones said. "It's frustrating to think millions of Cowboys and Packers fans won't be able to see it."

The NFL is the most profitable of all sports. Eventually, most, if not all games will be on some sort of pay network. After all, it's all about the money.

i guess i'm just old enough to remember when people complained about this stuff (NFL, MLB, so on) moving to espn from the networks.

as someone pointed out already, it's about the money - just like any other for-profit company. but it's also about control of their product (which is, of course, connected to the money). mlb gets their channel in 2009. nba has one already, too. if you're a football fan, again, i'm just not sure why you wouldn't have the nfl network already.

I don't have cable, nor dish. Dish network with NFL network is about $43/month. I'm not willing to pay that...over $500/year.

so then you'd be complaining if this game were on espn. isn't this more of a "screw cable/satellite" rant? if so, welcome to the 90s.

i'm fairly certain comcast offers nfl network across the country, it's just usually a premium channel.

not sure that article makes me right; it says "the vast majority" of comcast customers can get nfl network via a premium package. which, of course, implies that there are some comcast customers who can't. there could be another nuance to that (maybe the rest just have it in their basic package) but the above poster may very well be right.

Chuck D., agree with your take on this matter. I'm a huge NFL fan but can't justify the couple of extra bucks it'll take to see one game per week. In a few years if the whole league goes this route, the NFL may become like the NBA to me. I haven't watched a game in years. Though, i follow the major storyline's.

The NFL has the entire country wrapped into Sunday afternoon. This might be pushing too much for the last dollar. We'll see.

I highly doubt that "most, if not all games" will go to a pay network. The revenue is in the commercials. I would think that the NFL is seeing a backlash for putting some games on pay channels so it would be interesting in seeing what would happen if they all went. I would guess they would lose some viewers. A lot of people are casual watchers and wouldn't pay for it. Half my extended family would be that way for instance. I could be wrong in the future, but I would think that they couldn't go to all pay games. They already offer a package to see all games for a season and I don't know many people that have that package. Television only shows maybe 6 total games a week out of the 15 available.

I recently called my provider and asked to be upgraded. However, they said that they do not offer it in my area (North Houston). I would gladly pay whatever it costs.

Whats gay is that the NFL Network used to be on the Comcast Digital Cable Regular Package, but then they moved it to the Premium Package. I was trying to watch a game the other day and it said I didn't have it

Maybe I am confusing the NFL network and the Sunday Ticket? I do have a NFL network station, but it seems to just be talking heads rather than actually showing games. I will double check....
