Hi, I am a college runner going to Albuquerque, New Mexico area from approximately December 20th 2007 to January 20th 2008 (1 month). Can you help me with finding places to stay? I know there have been tons of threads on this but that's why I contacted Eddy Hellebuyck before I knew everything about who he was (i was lookin through old letsrun threads here when searching Albuquerque New Mexico).
I would prefer to stay in a safe area (preferably also affordable but can pay more if necessary), near good running areas and away from ghettos and gangs (if this is applicable, this may not be of concern - I dont know all parts of this city that well). If someone here on letsrun can help me out, lemme know. I know former elite runner and now drug cheat Eddy Hellebuyck used to be in Alb NM but he got scooted out of area since getting fired as head coach of that high school team (I did a little research). I think Mr. Hellebuyck's wife responded to my email to Eddy and said they're now in Tucson Arizona these days and then she suggested that I contact one of the Kenyan runners at that La Cueva HS team he used to coach at before he got fired. I looked up the dudes times and seems like they would make good training partners except I dont know how to contact any of them (Ms.Hellebuyck gave me the email of a runner named Elias Kojo (sp?) but when I tried to contact it (a he or a she), I got no response)
...drug cheat or not, the Hellebuycks seem like nice people since they're willing to offer guidance and hospitality (but hopefully not EPO or some crap)
Anyway, what might be cool is to room near Univ of New Mexico or a high school with other runners, since all I'll be doing for the most part is running, not working, just running...Lastly, if anyone is interested in rooming with me/training partner, im a college runner (male) in about 1630ish 5k shape, doing about 60 mpw and looking to increase my mileage, base building for indoor/outdoor seasons. Please email me at
I would appreciate any guidance you guys can provide me. Thanks and take care everyone.
