to run a sub 2:19 you would have to run most 5k splits under 16:30 as a 2:19 is about 16:27 pace. No one in the world has that kind of endurance.
You NEED better 5k speed. To get better 5k speed you need better mile speed. Break 4:30, until then it looks grim.
ACtually...
3:43/2:04:26X2:19= about a 4:07 mile. So you need to break 4:20 AND have excellent endurance
good luck
i disagree. do you know what brian sell's mile PR is in comparison to his marathon pr?
i don't think lowering your mile time has NOTHING to do with marathon training. if this guy gets to the point where he can run 2:20, obviously he will be able to run under 4:40, 4:30, or whatever. really, it doesn't matter. what matters is massively expanding his base and endurance. speed may matter in the last mile of the race, but what's really important is the 25.2 which comes before it.
i too am shooting for this mark, and i've run 14:56. pretty sure that i've reached the top of genetic possibility with that though. best of luck.
