I've written about ongoing knee pain in previous posts and, even though I wanted to avoid it at all costs, I had cortisone injected in my right knee. After tens months of inflamation and pain, I finally found relief. That was three weeks ago. Since then, I've quickly gotten back most of my pre-injury conditioning and have only a little time left to get marathon-ready for Cape Cod in two weekends.
Tomorrow, I plan on my last 20-miler at just 15 days out from the marathon. My previous three runs at this distance have been disasters - two have been done with the bad knee pain and the third was just last weekend in a Northeast heat wave (not quite as bad as Chicago, though). I need a good, solid long run for confidence as much as (or maybe even more than) for conditioning.
Am I doing my last long one just too close to the marathon and setting myself up for a blowout in Falnouth?
BTW, 'Just Trying 2 Run' will be retired as my screen name after this thread because...I'm Back, Baby!
