What has happened to the young crop of GB runners from a while ago?
Ablitt? Matt Lole? T Bedford? S Murphy? McCash? Toward? Soos? Lamb? didn't these guys all win english schools and represent GB at some point? Have they all quit running..

Soos has injury problems the past 2 years or so, but is getting back into i think?
Now that you point it out, I am kind of confused what happened to the British 800-mile scene. It was crazy in the 80s, what happened to it? Since then have they ever had 3 guys running under 3:48 for the mile?
I remember a feature in an AW of a couple of years ago doing a "where are they now" of the first GB team for the Euro cross in Alnwick 94.
All long retired from competitive running except Barry Royden, still smashing the miles in and winning races every week!
I haven't heard or seen any results from the names at the top of this thread for a few years now, i recall reading that a few of them went to St Marys and saw some results but since haven't seen anything?
Apparently Scott overall is out in the usa training but nobody seems to know how he's running? same with bedford and murphy, two steeplechasers who were winning a lot of races when younger?
Dis Lee McCash, Toward and Gamester all give up running?
Wrong, Toward is running well in the states, Ablitt has made a promising comeback and ran well at the Southern 6 stage, Matt Lole is still around but doesn't seem to have capitalised ona good season 2/3 years ago. Soos is injured, Lamb still runs but not at the level he was at.
Toward is still running? where is he now?
Whats happened to murphy and bedford?? and anyone know what scott overalls aims are now he is training in the states?
Toward is living with Ablitt in Twickenham and training really really hard. Murphy is around there as well.
Beford is in California.
They all live in same area...surely they must be hoping to have a good season then? these were some of the best young runners in england training together? be interesting to see how they all do at the euro trials and other races this winter leading into the summer!!
haven't heard much of murphy since he won the busa's..heard he went to butler with toward but nothing since.
Bedford is in america to? heard he quit running a while ago, shame after that english schools win! couldv'e been good.
ran in same league/county as Bedford and winter before last he had a mini-revival and started running well again.
No idea what he's doing now though!
Its criminal the amount of talent wasted in this country - however time and again talent is proved to be of lesser importance to application
No one was raving about Andrew Baddeley a couple of years ago. The challenge between being a promising runner to acutally delivering is massive
So you reckon the likes of towards, ablitt, bedford murphy etc are past it and wont make it into anymore teams?
It seems to be the curse of St Marys, people go there as promising runners..have a good year and then either overtrain or fizzle out..shame really.
have you seen the mess that calls itself GB nowadays?
It's a money orientated society, if you don't have any you are less than nothing. So unless you've got UK Athletics backing you are basically screwed.Bad bad people in the UK
become good people if they've a bit of money, doesn't matter how they got it just having it is enough. The vast majority of those people are total uncultivated idiots but their money makes them "acceptable".So you're a poor runner who's pretty good, but you get injured, the specialist treatment that would put you back on the rails is out of your price range so you don't get heraled up proprly, so you continue to try to train with the NHS patch ups that you can get and you get worse and worse till you stop.Believe you me, if you've no money in the UK
you are NOTHING.
Woah bit of a rant there was it..
this thread is just trying to find out what the above mentioned athletes are doing now? if still running etc and what has happened to their running careers? and if they are getting back into shape, aims etc..
Not hate the UK.
well i hate the UK,or rather what it has become.
Got treated pretty badly back there in the past, after the Falklands to be precise.Told you yesterday i'd done a spell in the legion, runnig away from that god awful moneygrabbing society.
Well that's neither here nor there, lets try and stick to the topic eh..
anyone know if ablitt, overall or toward are planning on the euro trials or any major aims?
