as much as it would be cool for Abdi to make the team, i'd have Meb go in his place. i think he and Hall could have better team-tactics together, getting both to medal. with that said, if an alternate could be selected, Abdi would get my vote over ritz, gilmore, etc.
3 all-american homegrown blue-collar runners . . . but seriously

Although Meb hasn't run well in his last couple marathons, he did get silver in Athens. Hall and Abdi have proved they are great marathoners as well, so I think that group would be America's best. Goucher's chances are slim to none, same with Ritz unless he improves enormously from last year. Sell and Shay are hard working animals, but I just don't think they're fast enough. Same goes for Culpepper. Who am I forgetting?
Sell - Very nice guy, hard worker, and especially if he wears the Kareem goggles he wore in Running Times
Gilmore- Humble, another hard worker, just think it would be cool
Khalid Khannouchi- This would put the icing on the cake for his career- actually I don't know why I picked him, but it would be cool if he proved everyone wrong
I like the guys that aren't the favorites. I wish there were two more spots available, then I would choose Ryan Hall and Fasil Bizuneh for their work ethics.
Abdi
Meb
Khannouchi
Meb, Culpepper (Alan, not Tim), Dan Browne.
Culpepper

Meb
i would have gone with meb but, he already has a medal. i want to see someone else just for interests sake.
Ritz, Hall, and Sell.
Peter Gilmore
Brian Sell
Fasil Bizuneh
Bob Dole
who I'd like to see make team
Abdi Abdirahman
Fasil Bizuneh
Peter Gilmore
Who will likely make team
Meb keflezighi
Ryan Hall
Abdi Abdirahman
I think Meb likely wins his first marathon
I'd love to see one longshot make the team like a carney, bizuneh, gilmore, Shay, Justin Young, clint Verran, Briney
abdi
meb

To answer the question literally, I'd love to see Ryan Shay make the team. I ran with him (well, sort of) in college and he's a great guy and tough competitor. He's had to fight some setbacks lately, but seems to be back running strong again.
Go Shay!

I'd love to see an outsider as well, but I would qualify it by saying that I want an outsider that is willing to go for it. I would hate to see a less talented guy make it by running even 5:05s and passing a fading front runner.
hall
gilmore
culpepper
Is there anyone in the field who, if they finished in the top 3, wouldn't take the slot so they could run the 10k (if they qualified in the 10k next summer). Browne? Didn't he try running two races last time and it didn't work out the best? Meb? Already has a marathon medal, might like a crack at a track medal? Abdi? Is he fast enough to get a medal on the track, or any of these guys actually?
Not doubting anyone's talent here, just throwing out a possible scenario.
