Why Are There So Many Mean an Critical People On This Board ???

message boards, especially anonymous ones, are places where you can be as rude as you want because only idiots are going to take things personally from a place like letsrun and it's the only place people can act so rudely. I find it hilarious at times because it would be so unexpected in a real life situation.

It's human nature. LetsRun posters are human. We can't all be perfect like you

1) anonymity

2) glycogen depletion

3) immaturity

Don't know but I get a lot of laughs out of it. Really it's human nature (maybe a microcosm of ethnocentrism). If I know x and you don't, even though you may know y and z, for the moment I am smarter than you. On a message board,it may be exaggerated.

Trolls, Arrogance, Stupidity, Troublemakers, Bullies. Most of them are unimportant people who live very shallow lives. Being trolls make them feel better about themselves. Somehow feeling better about themselves makes them believe everyone will love them, look up to them and not question anything they have to say. They're not people you really want to know, but in reality they're probably a lot like people you do know. Maybe it's best they take some of their meanness out as trolls rather than kicking the dog or worse beating their spouse or kids.

Oh, quit applying pseudo-deep analysis where it isn't necessary. This board is just for fun, mostly, so laugh along or go find another one (RWOL, T&FN) where you'll find the kid-glove treatment that your thin skin warrants.

...likely because they are able to hide behind names without saying any of the crap to your face...driving off guys like renato canova, etc. is completely inexcusable.

my impression has always been that the relative anonymity of the boards is like alcohol. Any social skills or previous inhibitions go out the window for a significant proportion of posters.

As the people/posters get older, most learn to control their alcohol consumption and behavior when under the influence, and likewise don't become unhinged sociopath assholes when they have an opportunity to post anonymously on a public message board.

They're insecure guys with small weenies.

Many people are frustrated, angry, depressed, and unhappy. But they have few socially acceptable outlets to express this frustration. Anonymous message boards like Letsrun provide such an outlet where there are no real consequences.

Also, it's much easier to be rude and insulting to fictional, anonymous "screennames". Sure, there are real people behind those screennames, but their realness is obscured over the internet connection. They become abstractions of reality. So, you don't feel like such a jerk when you insult someone online, as opposed to a face-to-face encounter. When you say something mean to someone in real life, you see the hurt expression on their face and hear it in their voice. It's real. You don't get that on Letsrun. You might get a "f*** you" in return. Competely different.

So, in conclusion, I actually don't think that most of the "jerks" and "haters" on Letsrun are horrible people in real life. They are just depressed, angry, have low-self esteems, etc. And they are projecting these painful feelings onto "safe" virtual entities. Granted, such behavior is immature and it hurts others. But I really do think these posters are probably better people than their Letsrun alter-ego would suggest.

Not far from the mark, but if you use your actual name on here you also set yourself up as an easy mark for these types. I think that, if you want to get to the root of it, people act this way here because they're permitted to, there's no enforcement of accountability with any teeth. The "culture of cruelty" is probably seen as one of the main draws of this forum by its owners and moderators and they're obviously loath to enhance the quality of the site if it might mean a dip in traffic. Consenting to such behavior is as much of a contributing factor to the problem as the individual users are.

Some of us secure guys with medium weenies are into being "Rude, Critical, and Downright Mean" too. But we do it with a smile and not a scowl.

Look at it as therapy. It is cathartic to throw a little leather on the boards now and then. The same reason why most people become vile, angry, obscenity-spewing bastards in their car. Not healthy if it spills into other areas of life, but not so bad as an occasional treat.

I am gifted and well endowed with exceptional endurance... I agree with Lotus and Honest Woman....
