I would go with Tim Hutchings....followed by Brendan Foster and Steve Cram. Great commentators don't have to be runners or even run but it helps to know something about the sport....anything about the sport Carol Lewis. That being said, guys that know a lot about the sport and have run can also be terrible commentators (Shorter/Liquori/Rawson)
It reminds me of the presidential race every four years. Every four years I repeatedly think, "this is the best we have to offer?"
Chris Huffins should do it. He knows everything and can talk a blue streak.
Brendan Foster is pretty bad. In fact one of the worst commentators. Probably even one of least coherent people allowed to frequently speak on television!
He has difficulty constructing sentences and making meaningful comments. He does not keep up to date with domestic runners except Mo Farah.
Steve Cram is quite good. Hutchings also.
Frank Shorter
Charles Barkley
i'm going to go with cram with carol lewis being the worst.
I don't know the best but he would probably be British.
British commentators are much better than American commentators.
Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling for SNY
Best: Tim Hutchings
Worst: Sally Gunnell
You've got to be kidding me. He is the most unaware and self agrandizing guy in the booth today. His Bolder Boulder commentating is a yearly recurring bumblefest. Worst, worst, absolute worst commentating ever.
Magic Johnson. He's amazing.
Eric Winalda rules.
Michael Johnson is the best.
Paul Sherwin.
Willie Smith
Tommy Heinsohn.
They're not retired yet, but based on the Flotrack 800, Andrew Carlson and Ryan Hall get my vote.
Carrie Tollefson.
OOps. Carrie is obviously not a former athlete. I vote for Charles Barkley!
