It's not wierd. It's "runners' knee" and like many other injuries it will get better, but it takes six weeks of rest to heal.

haha, i love the aribtrary six weeks of rest suggestion. how do you have any clue how much rest (if any) he should take? it could be none, less, or much more.
Nah, it's 6 weeks exactly. If you run after 5 weeks and 5 days of rest, your knee will not get better. You must take off exactly 6 weeks.
It's just a guess, based on some 55 years of running experience. Of course, you are right that the guess, like most doctors' prescriptions as well, may be wrong.
