Thanks for the link. I always thought my 10K was better than my 2 mile but this table says otherwise. Then again, I was training for the 2 mile when I ran the 10K so maybe I could have gone faster if I trained for that event.
Nice table.
For me it's a tossup between an indoor 2-mile in 9:21 and a 5,000 in 14:58. Everything else either shorter or longer is worse.
Speed is there for me, but my endurance is weak!
I always suspected I was a miler...
But then again, this table assumes that you have run all of these distances to the best of your ability. I haven't ever had the chance to race a 10k when I was in the best shape. I probably could have run under 31 this past spring, but my PR is still 33:27 from a road race some years ago. I haven't raced any competitive open 800s since high school either.
But anyways, neat chart.
I disagree with these conversion charts for the 10k, 5k, and 1500 specialists.
A 5k specialist that can run 13:30 and 3:39, which are legit. But then you get the 1500 specialist that goes 3:40 and 13:19. Makes no sense.

I believe the book was written for recreational (less talented) people. For a typical road warrior, 18:07 and 38:06 probably make sense, and such a person might be capable of a 58 second 400, although the 100/200 equivalents are garbage.
But, a 4-minute mile is NOT equivalent to a 10.2 100m, 46.2 and 3:40.5 are not CLOSE to equivalent, someone with a 51.6 400 should be able to go a LOT faster than 2:00.1 (1:53 would be more like it) unless he's a sprinter.
The guy who made the table doesn't know anything at all about faster runners, and one can probably make the same judgement about the whole book.
