not necessarily. you should be Decent at the 3000, which you are, but you dont have to necessarily be good. although 2.05 is awesome and WAY better than 9.23 relateively speaking, you have to remember that the 800 and 3000 are vastly different events, on opposing ends of the middle-distance spectrum. i mean if some really good 400 guys can run good or decent 800s, like juantorena, and jana rawlinson, you know that the 800 has a HUGE dose of sprinting involved. but those times are money, man, keep going.
Isn\'t Alison a girl\'s name?
And 2:05 and 9:23 seem pretty equal
Agreed, the events are pretty different. Maybe a 9-min time will be good to aim for, but you kind of have to pick one. Imagine Meseret Defar or Bekele over 800m - good, but well off world class in a direct comparison, which seems to be what you're making. Or Mutola, in her prime, at 3k. She couldn't even really make 1500m stick, let alone 3k, the differences are just too large.
So don't try to be equally good at them - use the less important one as a yardstick to train a different component to your running ability but don't compare directly.
