How sad for all of us that you actually wrote and posted this. Your ignorance is approached only by the follow-up poster that claims that all whites have at some point had similar ideas.

I think that people forget that over 60% of this country is white, which is why you see a lot of white kids in college. Remember, 13% of the population is black.
You all can call me pathetic, I was simply stating a point. I am not a racist, in fact, some of my best friends happen to be black.

This would be an example of "reverse-racism".
It would not be allowed to have an all white pageant, it would be considered racist. But it's okay for there to be all black ones. Same thing with tv. There is BET, but what about an all white channel?
Of course this is exactly what some one would say who was part of the dominant white culture in the country.
I cannot believe it when any one actually says that minorities of any color have it easier than a white person with the same background.
Look at the distribution of wealth in the country. Look at how many CEOs are white in this country. Look at the prison population level of this country. Look at the numbers of people of each race attending universities right now.
You are acting like minorities get a free ticket because they might get a scholarship here and there.
I'll give you an assignment to look up. It will shock you and possibly open your eyes to the inequalities in America. Look up which race receives the majority of all scholarships, grants, financial aid (from the government), and other supposed free hand outs to colleges. I'll give you a hint its not African Americans, not even close, and not even close to the percentage of the population they represent.
Of course you will come on here and blame it on them rather than on the institutions of racism in this country for the last 400 years. But go ahead and blame the victim and call me a liberal to. :-)
Oh I am white to and proud of it. I'd hate to be a black man in this country to day. My life is so much easier because I am white.
Your idea is too little too late. People have already have mapped out advantages for themselves, implemented your white racist ideas. Funding for secondary education is intentionally denied to minority neighborhoods, while at the same time the local police, fire, post office, etc. have no problem receiving equal funds. Private universities are free to discriminate. Stanford, Ivy League, CMU, etc. schools keep white enrollment artificially high using creative admissions criterion, denying equal access to Asians. If you want to stay in a 95% white environment, alls you have to do is have your parents pay for a Division III school. The HBC's let in white Anglos, white Hispanics, and Asians now in large numbers. There are no more 'all-Black' schools like there used to be. But racial inequality in education is still very strong today, that's the American way.

ummm....BET isn't all black. it just tries to appeal to the african american culture

Stupid liberal.
Just set the objective admissions standards high enough and it will be all white and Asian, with exceedingly rare exceptions.
striaght up BS...asians would predominate at highly selective universities if everything were just based on scores..as a gropu, they outscore whites easily.
Oh yeah I was also going to tell you to read the book.
"The Shame of the Nation" by Johnathan Kozol
In the book he actually proves that public education is more segregated than it was 50 years ago. I don't agree with all of his points, however, his data is hard to dispute and it will amaze you.
I also wanted to say that I thought the same way as you did when I went to college. But the more I read up on the information to prove my points the more I realized that I was the one who was wrong. Read a few more books and live a few more years and your opinion of the world might change a little.
I'll give you a few more books that demonstrate white cultural dominance. It's actually a fairly new sociology field of study.

haha
The sad part is if you saw how I voted in the last election you would have thought I was a conservative.
I'm probably one of the few people in the world who votes for a politician based on the issues rather than along party lines.
Just go to an all black school and get a minority scholarship! Seriously, I have discussed this with friends before...there are many examples of this throughout society. I believe to end racism, there needs to be an end to labels. The only thing people should be labelled is human, then everyone will have the same label and Oprah will have a lot less to talk about!

Ummmm...WET wouldn't be all white; it would just try to "appeal" to the...(oh, what is that respectful term used for the white population? that's right...) white culture. Yeah, that's the ticket. Just like the Miss Black pageants technically don't "ban" non-blacks.

haha, so you think that there aren't already plenty of channels that appeal to us whities? just because they aren't called WET doesn't mean that the executives aren't planning their programming based on the caucasian population

Hence the handle "Mr. Whitey" (itself a racial slur, not a mere label), right? Any other nuggets of wisdom?
who sits around an worries about this kind of crap?

But why do they have to CALL it BET? The point is that the name "WET" would never fly, yet no problems with using "BET." And not sure what you mean by "us whities." I can only assume you meant "us whiteys". In either case, nice job in both projecting your blatant stereotypes upon me and referring to YOURSELF by using a racial slur. Anything else?
Who sits around an(d) worries about who worries about this kind of crap?
I was wondering today about the possibilities for a "white" guy. I am starting the planning phase for attending graduate school, and I attended a session on funding opportunities for students attending grad school. The majority of the funding opportunities available were minority centered. 80%+ of the fellowships listed by the presenter either were stated specifically for minorities or that minorities were given preference.
By no means am I racist, and I despise the fact that people draw a color line. I hope that one day everyone will just see each other as "people" rather than black, white, Asian, Hispanic, etc.
But how is it fair to have minority scholarships/fellowships/assistantships? I mean I'm white and middle class, yet I study hard, I train hard, I get good grades, and I try to do everything right; what am I to think when I see offers opening up for others based on uncontrollable aspects? I cannot control who my parents were, where I am from, or a variety of other aspects that were determined well before the time I was born.
Further, one of the presenters stated that he would not have received the assistantship that he got had he not been a minority!
Is there a clear cut solution?
No, we are far from finding one.
I understand that minorities tend to come from under-privileged settings, and that it needs to be corrected; also, that it takes time for the corrections to be made. I also understand that it is the way it is for now. I do not have the legacy connections that others have, so I am just going to do my best and prepare myself the best I can to move onward to grad school. It just does not seem right to try to correct the social shortcomings using methods which are based on the surface of the social issues.

So my question to everyone is, if myself or another white person opened an \"all-white\" college, would I be labeled a racist?
You shouldn\'t even get in to college, let alone found one!
