Juiceville exodus. The new Atlantis, if you will.
I know no one who is seriously involved in athletics who thinks the Kipketer used drugs. The only ones I've met that have held such a position were sad, miserable subelites.

Then you don't know many [intelligent] people in athletics.
Kipketer on drugs? Not every outstanding sportsman is on something. Wilson is one of the least likely to have cheated. There were no huge/abnormal suspicious improvements in his career. What was abnormal about Wilson Kipketer was his running form. Graceful, pure. He is one of the greatest runners never to have won Olympic Gold (blame Kenya for that in '96).
His world record is not totally unbelievable either. About six tenths of a second faster then Coe's, and he did it 16 years later, on better tracks and with a better understanding of training techniques. If you're accusing Kipketer, then you must accuse Coe also, plus anyone else that has gone low 1:42's or better. I'm pretty sure that EPO wasn't available in 1981.
The reason why nobody is near Coe and Kipketer's times at the moment is because they were freaks. But someone else will come along. I wouldn't be surprised if the world record was broken in the next five years.

Buuuuulllllshhhhhiiiiiiittttt.
1993: WK has best time of 1:45.46
1994: Hires Slawomir Novak at coach, chops PR to 1:43.29
Continues chopping large chunks off PR 'till he runs 1:41.11 in '97.
Thanks for the info. I've looked into it.
His improvement in '94 can be viewed with suspicion, but anyone who reaches that sort of standard is going to have big improvements somewhere along the line. It wasn't like he was in his late twenty's when he made these gains. I don't know anything about Novak. Does he have a dodgy history?
Kipketer had already run a 1:45.7 in 1990. In 1991 he had a heel operation and in 1993 he had a knee operation. Isn't it conceivable that these injuries held him back but in 1994 (once fully fit) he was able to display his full potential?
My main point though, was that you can't accuse Kipketer of running times that ONLY taking drugs can achieve. If Coe could run 1:41.7 in 1981 (and most believe he was clean) then surely someone could beat that time 16 years later.
I posted too quickly.
So Novak coached in Prague. Did he have anything to do with the Czech women in the 80's?
I'm listening.
Kipketer's 1997 World Champs gun to tape gold posted yesterday on youtube
i think kipketer retired after the 2004 olympic bronze
i heard nils schumann tried to make a comeback a couple of years ago, but havent heard much since then
He ran 1:51 at the age of 14 and 1:48 at the age of 15. I'm sure he was clean then so doesn't this show that he had the potential to run the times he ran clean?
I actually already have this on video cassette which I've copied onto DVD (I have all the track races from Athens '97) but thanks anyway.
Not trying to slander anyone, just responding to the poster who said that no serious runners suspect Kipketer of drug use. That simply is not true.

And what did Coe's improvement look like?

20 1:47.7
21 1:44.95
22 1:43.97
23 1:42.33
24 1:44.7
25 1:41.73
1:43.97 to 1:42.33 ?!?! DRUGS!!!

are you saying runners like johnny gray did steroids? if you've ever talked to the guy for more than 2 minutes you would know this isn't true at all.

Don't forget the 1:49.6 in 1985 at the age of 13!!
In 12 years he only knocked off 8 seconds; a bit of a slacker.
I do have to say likely the most smooth, efficient looking runner ever.
So I'll admit that I used to be one of those guys who thought that everyone at the top was dirty. But after running 3:53 without any sort of drug support, i started to realize that some of these times were really possible for the most talented, best coached and hardest working people in the world. the world is a big place...
I saw Kipketer run in person in Monaco in 1998. I don't think many people who saw him run up close would question that he, of all people, would be naturally able to run the times he achieved. I don't know him, don't know what kind of person he was, but if i had an all-knowing crystal ball, and I was a betting man, i'd put about $50 down on the clean side.
If i remember correctly, he had trouble with Malaria later in his career.
Speaking of sweet 800m guys, what happened to Vebjorn Rodal? what is Jonny Gray up to?
I am NOT accusing Kipketer, Coe or Gray of taking drugs. I was replying to LOL LOL who was accusing Kipketer of cheating. I was saying that Kipketer is no more likely to have cheated then any other 800 m runner with a fast time (Kipketer is probably less likely to have cheated then others).
