"Think like winners - You Brits just need to show more belief"
Yeah, right. It takes talent. Mottram ran 3:42 at like 18 years old, basically a 4 minute high school miler. It's easy to say it's about belief when it comes easily to you. How many on this board reading that quote could actually run sub 13 minutes if they just believed? Hell, even sub 14.
Too much coverage
If we count how much Kenyan and Ethiopian won the 5k since 1980's to this date we will not have enough time.
Mottram will be humiliated in Osaka
Sihine plans 5000m return in Rome
2 July 2007- Ethiopia’s Olympic 10000m silver medallist will run his second race of the 2007 season when he takes part in the Baracaldo Golden Gala IAAF Golden League meeting on Friday 13th July 2007.
24-year old Sihine who missed many races in the 2006 season due to a leg injury told ethiopianrun.org: “I want to obtain the 5000m qualification minimum for Osaka, having had two difficult years of injury and loss of form. Now I feel that I am slowly coming back to shape.”
Sihine’s participation in Osaka is not in doubt after his world leading 26:48 over 10,000m in Hengelo at the end of May. Now the Prisons Police club runner is hopeful of also running the 5000m in Osaka. “After what happened two years, I feel that I want to run again and see whether I can match the world’s best,” he says.
Meeting the qualifying A standard or toppling the top three incumbents in the current Ethiopian lists (Tariku Bekele, Abraham Cherkose, and Gebregziabher Gebremariam) for the 5000m should not prove too difficult for Sihine. His personal best time of 12.48 set three years ago at the same venue before the 2004 Athens Olympics is still the third fastest time run by an Ethiopian and nearly sixteen seconds faster than Tariku Bekele’s world leading time of 13:04.05.
Sihine’s return will be welcome news for Ethiopia’s medal hopes in Osaka. With record holder Kenenisa Bekele opting to run only the 10000m in Osaka, Sihine’s experience will be vital if the country is to win its first world championship gold over at the men’s 5000m.

This the way of the world. Webb makes several times what his faster African counterparts do just because Webb will always bring more attention to himself (and his brand) than just about everyone else in his race.
While Webb got there because of potential, Mottram is getting there because of results (not a knock on Webb, he's starting to run to his potential).
Mottram talks himself up at home
``I know that when I'm standing there at the starting line in Osaka that I deserve one of those medals because I've done the hard work.''

actually as an 18-year old he ran 3.52-3.55 for the 1500 i believe
So what are the secrets of Mottram’s training? In short, it is a throwback to old-fashioned methods – he runs more than 100 miles per week and trains on the track once a week, if that. Much more importantly, though, to complement this physical work he has a winning mental attitude. “Every time I run a race I try to win it,” he says. “It’s an attitude, simple. All it takes is hard work, patience and attitude.”

he ran 342 at age 18

well lemme see, since i went to the same high school as him, and he set the still-existing school record for he 1500 in his senior year, in which he was 18 yrs old, and it was 3.49.59, i think, 3.42 would be wrong and unreachable in the same year
First you say 3:52-55, then you say 3:49, which is it dumbass?
Maybe he ran 3:42 after that school year but when he was still 18.
What Australian is a fan of Baylor?

well he ran ~3.52 on school grounds and then 3.49 in the interschools, dumbass, so actually, its both (2 separate school records). sorry i was a couple of seconds off before as opposed to not right at all.
plus, the interschools where he set the second record was the last competition of the year, right before the year 12 statewide exams, which are the most important exams of high school. they start in november and end in mid-december, so there are no more competitions that he would've been able to or have wanted to for the rest of that year. the australian academic year runs like the calendar year. satisfied or still fuming?

You dind't mention anything about school records in your first post dumbass. It's not both. You said he ran 352-355 at 18(nothing to do with a school record and only to do with age). Either he did or he didn't. You either are a liar or a complete moron.
Not sure about 342, but Mottram in fact did run 3:43.37 at age 18.

well somebody has their panties in a twist. so what if i didnt mention anything about school records? why does that matter? i said i was from the same high school. the stat i quoted (the3.52-3.55) was from memory, and when i checked it actually was the record for a run on school grounds. the other faster record was the overall school record run at the interschools. i dont really see the problem with these stats. he ran ~3.52 for the on-school record, so it fits in my range, but it simply wasnt the fastest he ran that year. 3.49 was.

nope, he was 19 when he ran that.

Glad to see you're still posting Baylor Fan. We miss your incessant posting about your alma mater on the Dyestat Illinois Board, while you were trying to convince Jager's Dad that his son should join Todd Harbour's program.
Bideau said: 'British runners talk about the Kenyans and Ethiopians as if they have special powers. You can't think like that. In the event at Eugene this year there was this little guy, Kenenisa Bekele's brother, and he has this huge chap Mottram behind him. He must have been frightened out of his life.
Really?? These guys talk up a big game. Lets wait and see.

so there's only one baylor fan in the world? i have no idea who jager is or todd harbour, and i've only visited dystat a total of about five times in my life. but someone's gotta keep posting when typical letsrun posters get angry for no reason.
