I'm curious to see how many mediocre runner who believed that they could potentially be trials qualifier type guys would be interested in starting a new training group.
This is the very early stages of the group and if it happened it would likely begin sometime next winter or spring.
I'm just a regular guy, no amazing results but i've been on the shelf quite a bit and still have the itch to find out has fast i can run. for the group i'd be looking for guys who have run ~4:10-4:15 mile to ~14:40-15:15 5K. This would be for guys who still want to run on the track but aren't against moving up and hitting the roads eventually at the marathon distance.
As of right now there isn't a coach, but that's something that we'd definitely look for. The whole idea is to get a bunch of serious runners together who have shown some promise but just couldn't put it together for whatever reason. Possible high school studs who fell off or guys who stayed injured in college except for a decent race here or there. Basically it's just to prolong our youth for a little longer and find out how fast we can run before we have to grow up.
I've created an e-mail address just for inquiries about the group so anyone interested let me know. Initially I'm thinking trying to get a group of about 8-10 guys together in Austin, TX and renting a large house or a couple of next door condos or something. We would find a place with rent of $600 per person or less so a good restaurant job or running store job would take care of bills. If there is female interest as well we could look at having a few houses and having both groups, a la the college atmosphere. Maybe I just need to grow up but I've got a feeling that there are more people out there like me who just aren't ready to do that.
