Ok folks....here is what is going on...
A guy from the Chips, and an employee of Fleet Feet racing have cooked up this idea of creating an elite team after seeing local runners from different clubs at a bay area race and wishing they were all on the same club.
So, said employee of Fleet Feet racing sends out some emails telling people about this idea of an elite team, some emails did not mention that but requested the recipient call the sender of the email.
And some people are all getting excited about and elite team in Sacramento....woo hoo. Like they want to be on the ground floor of something big.
Bottom line kids.....elite teams have not done well in this town. Are the Capital City Flyers still around? What about Sacramento Elite?
If and when you start setting standards for membership you lose you base, you lose your diversity. You need runners of all paces to make a great club.
I just joined a club in town because of just that. We have a fast open menn's team, a growing masters team and we are working on getting the women's team going. And there is no elite title that comes with it, no coach calling the shots and fattening his ego, and no big corporate banner hanging over our heads.
And to you who think of recruiting off our team, wise up. Our runners are not going anywhere.
So Mr. Chips and Mr. Fleet Feet, you need to look back through Sacramento running history and re-think your plan.
