Today marks my 5th day off in a row due to pain in my hip joint area. After some research, I am worried it might be a stress fracture in the femoral neck/hip joint. I sure hope I'm wrong.
I will be seeing a sports doc/surgeon as soon as I can schedule it. But if it is the dreaded SF, has anyone had this injury, was it due to an increase in volume/intensity and what kind of rehab and layoff was necessary?
Thanks for any input as I am the new coach of a HS cross country team and we start the school's first official summer running program next week (yes, the previous coach was pathetic and never did it). I was planning to run a lot this summer with the team in hopes of inspiring, motivating, etc.
I haven't run a ton of mileage since my college XC days in the 1980s, though I have run consistently over the years. I recently upped my intensity and volume over a 5-month period to mid-40 mpw from mid-20s with 2 fairly hard track workouts/AT runs a week and a 10-12 miler once a week.
